Traders Protest Sealing of Millennium 2 Market in Surat

Surat — The patience of the traders of Millennium 2 Market, which has been sealed for 13 days, has broken. After protesting outside the market for the last two days, today the traders protested by raising slogans near the Millennium Market located on the Ring Road under the leadership of the Federation of Surat Textile Traders Association (FOSTTA ).

Sealing Over Fire Safety Issues

On June 8, the fire department of the Municipal Corporation sealed the Millennium 2 Market over fire safety concerns. Following several incidents of fire in the market, the department took action, halting the business operations of more than 600 traders and leaving many workers unemployed.

FOSTTA's High-Level Talks Fail to Open Seal

For the last two days, traders have been gathering outside the market and protesting. Today, angry traders raised slogans outside the Millennium Market on the Ring Road as the seal remained intact despite FOSTTA's high-level negotiations with the Municipal Corporation.

Business Losses and Growing Anger

FOSTTA President Kailash Hakim and Cloth Arhatiya Association President Prahlad Agarwal joined the traders in support. The atmosphere grew tense as protesters demanded the reopening of the market and expressed frustration over the shutdown of business worth more than 500 crores. A convoy of Salabatpura police arrived at the scene to maintain order.

What Will Happen Next?

The outcome of this protest remains uncertain. It is yet to be seen whether the Municipal Corporation will heed the traders' demands and lift the seal or if this deadlock will persist, prolonging the crisis for the traders and workers affected by the closure.
