Gujarat Wrestlers Selected for International Training in Shimla

Under the aegis of the Grappling Wrestling Committee of India, three wrestlers from Gujarat have been selected to participate in the 2nd International Grappling Wrestling Training and Seminar. The event will take place from June 13 to 17 in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. The selected athletes are Kumari Madhuri Kulala, Abhishek Singh, and Lavesh Paliwal.

Subhash Dawar, Chairman of the Gujarat Grappling Wrestling Committee, announced the selection, attributing it to the successful efforts of National President Dinesh Kapoor and National Secretary Birju Sharma. The seminar will feature training from United World Wrestling Chief Zaharov I. Djokrovic of Russia. Participants from across India will benefit from the expertise shared in this five-day training camp.

Russia has historically dominated grappling sports, but India made significant strides by winning 105 medals at the Grappling World Championship in Moscow last November. Despite this success, Indian athletes and judges still have much to learn. The training camp aims to refine their skills and ensure they remain competitive internationally.

Before departing for Shimla, the selected athletes, accompanied by Subhash Dawar, visited the Fostta office in Surat to seek blessings from Fostta President Kailash Hakim. Hakim welcomed them with traditional scarves and extended his best wishes for their training in Shimla.
