At least 41, including 10 Indians killed in fire in Kuwait
Kuwait, 12 June (HS): At least 41 people, including 10 Indians were killed in a blaze that engulfed a building housing workers in the city of Mangaf in southern Kuwait. The incident was reported to authorities at 6 am (local time) on Wednesday.
A large number of workers were living in the building. Many of them were rescued. Kuwaiti Health Ministry said about 43 people were hospitalised due to burn injuries. The blaze broke out in the kitchen on a lower floor and quickly spread through the building. Many were trapped on the upper floors.
Kuwait's Deputy Prime Minister said that 41 people were killed in the incident.
Foreign Affairs Minister S Jaishankar expressed shock over the incident. The details of the incident are awaited. Indian Ambassador has left for the accident spot, he said. The Indian Embassy has released a helpline number 965-65505246.
A senior officer Major General Eid Rashed Hamad said the rooms were overcrowded. Several workers were living in one room to save money.
