Denied visa by USA, Nepal's cricketer Sandip Lamichhane reaches West Indies

Kathmandu, 12 June (HS): Nepali cricketer Sandip Lamichhane reached West Indies to participate in the World Cup T20 Cricket tournament. Lamichhane was denied a visa by the US. He plans to play for Nepal?s team in matches held in the West Indies. The World Cup is being hosted jointly by the US and West Indies.

Sandip was convicted of rape charges by a district court and was later acquitted by the High Court. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) allowed him to play for Nepal in the World Cup. USA, however, refused to grant visa to him.

CAN Secretary Paras Khadka said that Sandip has been sent to the West Indies to represent Nepal in matches played there. Sandip also shared a photograph with the caption ?Hello from West Indies? on reaching there. Nepal will play two matches in the West Indies, the first one against the hosts on Saturday at Saint Vincent and another against Bangladesh on June 17 at the same venue. Lamichhane will play both matches.
