Post poll-rout, Mayawati blames Muslims for defeat
Lucknow, 5 June (HS): After failing to win any seats in the Lok Sabha elections, Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati stated on Wednesday that despite the party's "proper representation" in elections, the Muslim community does not comprehend the BSP. She stated that in the future, the party will only provide the community an electoral opportunity after careful consideration.
The BSP failed to register an account for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections as well. It did, however, win 10 seats in the 2019 election, which it contested in coalition with the Samajwadi Party. Mayawati stated in a statement that her party will do a "deep analysis" of the trouncing and will take whatever actions are required to protect the party's interests.
She thanked the Dalit community, particularly the Jatavs, for supporting the party, but she also conveyed her unhappiness with the Muslims. The Muslim community, which is an important section of the Bahujan Samaj Party, is unable to grasp the BSP despite receiving appropriate representation in previous elections and again in the Lok Sabha general elections.
So, in such a circumstance, the party will give them a chance in the polls after careful consideration, so that the party does not suffer a massive defeat in the future, as it did this time, Mayawati stated. In the most recent general election, the BSP filed the highest number of Muslim candidates, 35.
She stated that now that the results have been out, it is up to the country's future leaders to consider democracy, interests, and the Constitution. Mayawati also objected to the poll being held in high heat and cautioned against the lengthy election process, which might be taxing for both ordinary citizens and the lakhs of government personnel on election duty. She stated that the election should be held in no more than three or four phases.
