Rahul Gandhi's victory margin from Raebareli highest in UP

Rae Bareli, 4 June (HS): Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader who is on track for a massive victory in Uttar Pradesh's Rae Bareli, presently has the state's largest winning margin. Gandhi leads his nearest challenger, Dinesh Pratap Singh of the BJP, by more than three lakh votes, according to Election Commission figures as of 4:15 p.m.

In Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi leads his nearest competitor, Congress candidate Ajay Rai, by more than 1.5 lakh votes.

Sonia Gandhi, who had held the Rae Bareli seat since 2004, won by 1.67 lakh votes against Singh in 2019. She opted out of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and transferred to the Rajya Sabha, where Rahul Gandhi replaced her as the Congress candidate from Rae Bareli.

Gandhi held the Amethi Lok Sabha seat from 2004 until 2019. In the recent elections, he lost Amethi to BJP's Smriti Irani, but he won the second seat in Kerala and preserved his MP status.

This time, he is contesting two seats, Rae Bareli (Uttar Pradesh) and Wayanad (Kerala), and is leading in both. In Wayanad, he leads his nearest challenger, Annie Raja of the CPM, by more than 3 lakh votes.

The Grand Old Party is also hoping to reclaim its Amethi seat from the BJP, with Smriti Irani behind Congress candidate Kishori Lal. According to the current trends, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leads with 291 seats to the opposition INDIA bloc's 233. Counting has also created shocks in Uttar Pradesh, where the Congress-Samajwadi Party coalition maintains continuous leads ahead of the BJP.
