Fugitive in Surat Murder Case Arrested After 18 Years

Surat : In a dramatic turn of events, the fugitive in a long-standing Surat murder case has been apprehended after 18 years on the run. The accused, who had been living under different aliases and disguises, was arrested by Pandesara police based on secret information.

The accused, Narayan Singh alias Raju, had been evading capture since 2006 after killing his friend, Bhola Kurmi, over a salary dispute. Bhola, who worked as a watchman in an iron rod manufacturing company in Surat's Bhestan area, was struck on the head with a rod by Narayan, resulting in Bhola's immediate death. Narayan then fled, changing his identity multiple times to avoid detection.

A Life in Hiding:

Ten years ago, Narayan lost one of his hands in a road accident. Following this incident, he adopted the guise of a monk and settled in a village in Uttar Pradesh. Despite numerous attempts, the police had failed to locate him until recently.

Breakthrough and Arrest:

DCP Vijaysingh Gurjar of Surat District Police explained that the case had remained open, with a warrant issued under Section 70 of CrPC when Narayan could not be found. Acting on recent intelligence, a police team was dispatched to Narayan's village, where they successfully apprehended him.

During interrogation, Narayan confessed to fleeing to Mumbai initially and later moving to Kanpur, where he adopted the name Raju and worked as a driver. After his accident in 2014, he assumed a new identity as a monk.

The arrest of Narayan Singh brings a long-awaited resolution to a case that has spanned nearly two decades. His capture underscores the adage that one cannot escape the consequences of their actions forever. The Pandesara police have now closed a significant chapter in their pursuit of justice.
