Tragic Loss of Gujarat Family on US-Canada Border Prompts Investigation
Anti-Human Traffick Unit to Uncover Illegal Immigration Racket
The Anti-Human Traffic Unit (AHTU) of CID-Crime is set to investigate the tragic drowning of four members of a Gujarat family who died while attempting to illegally cross the US-Canada border, according to a top official.
The incident occurred when the family's boat capsized in the St. Lawrence River on the Quebec-New York border. The deceased, identified as Pravin Chaudhary, his wife Daksha, son Meet, and daughter Vidhi, were from Manekpur Kabhla village of Mehsana district. In total, eight people lost their lives in the accident, including four Romanians with Canadian passports.
This tragedy marks the third such incident in the past year, following the death of another Gujarat family who froze to death while attempting to cross the border from Canada to the US. In response, the state administration has taken the matter seriously, handing over the investigation to the AHTU unit of CID-Crime.
Authorities have reached out to their Canadian counterparts to obtain the visa and travel documents of the deceased, despite the family's insistence that they were unaware of the Chaudharys' plans. Teams from CID-Crime, local police, and Gujarat ATS have launched a massive operation to uncover the illegal immigration racket, resulting in the arrest of the alleged kingpin, Bobby Patel.
Further investigation revealed that Pravin Chaudhary had been in contact with someone in the US, likely a potential employer. The incident highlights the ongoing issue of human smuggling and illegal immigration affecting the region. Reports suggest that local agents are involved in luring individuals with the promise of a better life in the US. This tragic event underscores the dangers of illegal immigration and the urgent need to address the problem.
