Bhavnagar Tragedy: 4 Teenage Girls Drown in Lake, 1 Survives

Bhavnagar – A devastating incident struck Bhavnagar when four out of five teenage girls drowned in Gaurishankar Sarovar, a tube well pond, while trying to save one another. This tragedy has added to a growing list of recent drowning incidents in Gujarat, sparking widespread grief in the community.

On Tuesday morning, five girls went to Gaurishankar Sarovar to wash clothes and bathe. When one girl fell into the water, the others attempted to rescue her but ended up drowning themselves. Nearby residents, alerted by the girls' screams, managed to save one of them. She has been hospitalized and is reported to be out of danger.

The deceased have been identified as Archana Dabhi (17), Rashi Charoliya (9), Kajal Jambucha (12), and Komalben Charoliya (13). The survivor, Kinjal Charoliya (12), is receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Pradyuman Singh Jadeja, Chief Fire Officer of Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation, stated that the fire brigade received a distress call around 12:30 PM. By the time the rescue team arrived, local swimmers had already pulled the girls from the pond. Unfortunately, four were declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

This tragic event follows several recent drowning incidents in Gujarat. On May 12, seven people from three families were swept away by strong waves at Dandi beach, resulting in four fatalities. On May 14, eight migrants from Amreli, now residing in Surat, drowned in the Narmada River, with seven deaths. Another incident on May 15 saw three minors and a young man drown in the Machchu River near Morbi district.

These incidents have raised concerns about water safety and the need for heightened vigilance in preventing such tragedies.
