Iran: Mohammad Mokhber appointed acting President

Tehran, 20 May (HS): Mohammad Mokhber, Vice-president has been made the acting President of Iran, following the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter accident on Sunday.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei announced Mokhber?s appointment on Monday.

The helicopter carrying Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Governor of East Azerbaijan, and other officials and bodyguards crashed in the mountainous region in northwest Iran.

Khamenei, in a condolence message for Raisi, announced Mokhber to assume interim duties as President. Mokhber will be required to prepare for presidential elections along with the heads of legislature and judiciary, within a maximum period of 50 days.
