Ahmedabad : In response to an attack on a teacher conducting a survey at a madrasa in Dariyapur, Ahmedabad police have arrested two suspects, Farhan and Faizal. The incident occurred on Saturday when Principal Sandeep Patel of Bapunagar School was attacked by a mob while taking pictures at the Syed Sultan Mosque. The attackers, around ten in number, beat the principal and looted his belongings, including his mobile phone and documents.
According to a news agency report, the attack happened amid a state-wide survey initiated by the education department to assess if madrasa students are receiving primary education alongside religious studies. Teams of teachers have been visiting madrasas to gather information.
Following the attack, the Dariyapur police lodged a complaint and, within 24 hours, apprehended Farhan and Faizal, who allegedly incited the mob. However, five other suspects involved in the attack are still on the run. The Ahmedabad Crime Branch, in coordination with the local police, has been conducting search operations in different areas of Dariyapur to locate the absconding suspects.
ACP Reena Rathwa of Ahmedabad F Division has assured that police protection will be provided if required during future madrasa surveys to ensure the safety of the survey teams.
