Amethi was, is, and will always be mine: RaGa

Amethi, 17 May (HS): Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, and Akhilesh Yadav, the chief of the Samajwadi Party, held a combined public rally in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday to support Congress and INDIA bloc candidate KL Sharma.

Speaking during the gathering, the Congress leader said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seeking to alter the Constitution. Amethi, the most watched constituency in the fifth round, will go to the polls on May 20. The results will be released on June 4.

Rahul Gandhi, seeking votes for the Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma, stated, "I came here for the first time with my father (Rajiv Gandhi) 42 years ago. The Amethi public taught me all I know about politics. At the time, there were no roads or development. And I've watched loving relationships between individuals here and my father. That is also how I approach politics. So you do not think I am running for election in Rae Bareli... I was, am, and will belong to the Amethi," he stated.

He also referred to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as a different poll. ?For the first time, a political party and its leaders have said unequivocally that they would modify and abolish the Constitution. This is the heritage of Gandhiji, Ambedkarji, Jawaharlal Nehru, and every citizen of the nation,? he stated, holding a copy of the Constitution in his hand. Congress leader KC Venugopal and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also attended the gathering.

He questioned the crowd, "Would you let the Constitution be erased? Is there any power in the world capable of erasing it? The first thing we must do is safeguard the Constitution. Why? This is your voice. Your future. Your thoughts are entrenched in it. Whatever has been provided to poor people in the country so far, whether it is the right to land, farmer help, or the green revolution, has been achieved as a result of this book,? Rahul Gandhi added.

He lashed out at PM Modi, saying, "(Prime Minister) Modi wants to end this Constitution. If it collapses, there will be no public sector, no employment, rising prices, the end of reservations, and the gradual abolition of all your rights.

In India, there would be 22-25 wealthy individuals whose rights would be protected without it. The rights of farmers, laborers, youth, mothers, and sisters will be taken away,? according to the Congress leader.

Speaking at the same gathering, SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav predicted that the BJP will struggle to get 140 seats in the Lok Sabha. ?The four phases of elections have concluded. Since the four stages ended, the Bharatiya Janata Party has been entirely vanquished. Their chariot has sunk and is trapped; have those who shouted "400 plus" forgotten? People throughout the country have resolved to make the BJP hunger for even 140 seats. These individuals want to change the constitution and our liberties; now the people will change them," he stated.

Union Minister Smriti Irani is running in Amethi against Congress contender Kishori Lal Sharma, a longstanding Gandhi family supporter. Nanhe Singh Chauhan has been named by the Bahujan Samajwadi Party. Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, will run from Rae Bareli, where his mother was a five-time MP, before entering Parliament this year in the Rajya Sabha. Uttar Pradesh is holding seven stages of polling for 80 Lok Sabha seats.
