Unhealthy Ice Cream Seized in Surat

After recent revelations of adulteration in ghee, cheese, and ice dishes in Surat, the focus has now shifted to ice cream. With people consuming large quantities of cold treats due to the heat, the Food Department of Surat Municipal Corporation launched an investigation into the quality of ice cream sold in shops. The results were alarming, with ice cream from 10 shops found unfit for consumption. The Health and Food Departments of the Municipal Corporation took immediate action against the shopkeepers selling these unhealthy products.

Raids were conducted on ice cream parlors in the city on May 2, and 10 samples were collected and sent to the laboratory for testing. The results revealed that the milk fat content in the samples was below the required 10 percent, and the total solids content was lower than the required 36 percent. As a result, the Surat Municipal Corporation confiscated and destroyed 87.5 kg of ice cream from these parlors and took punitive action against the shopkeepers.
