Gujarat High Court Acquits All Accused in Jethwa Murder Case

The Gujarat High Court acquitted all accused, including former BJP MP Dinu Bogha Solanki, in the 2010 murder of RTI activist Amit Jethwa. The court overturned the trial court's life imprisonment sentences.

In a significant verdict, the Gujarat High Court has acquitted all accused in the high-profile murder case of RTI activist Amit Jethwa, who was killed in front of the Gujarat High Court complex in July 2010. Among the acquitted is former BJP MP Dinu Bogha Solanki, along with six others, who were declared innocent by the court.

The division bench comprising Justice AS Supahiya and Justice Vimal K Vyas issued a 234-page judgment overturning the trial court's decision to sentence the accused to life imprisonment.

Amit Jethwa was known for his activism, particularly regarding illegal mining, and had filed an RTI petition in the High Court about illegal mining around the Gir forest a month before his murder.
