Surat Police Arrest Six Members of Notorious Kanjar Gang

Surat: Six women with a criminal history, who are part of the notorious interstate Kanjar gang, have been arrested for stealing cash and goods worth lakhs of rupees by posing as beggars. Working in coordination, the Bardoli Town and Kadodara GIDC police of Surat district swiftly apprehended the suspects and solved the case within hours.

The six women, identified as Sunita alias Mamta Jufan alias Jagat Parmar (50), Neetal alias Neeta Vicky Pawar (32), Sonal Yuvraj aka Devraj Devipujak (35), Aruna Shankarbhai Rajubhai Rathore (35), Sapna Tarun aka Aryan Pawar (27), and Kavita aka Chanda aka Kiran aka Jhun Charan aka Kohinoor Salaat (32), stole Rs 9.16 lakh in cash and clothing from a shop on Bardoli Station Road. The shopkeeper reported the theft, and a police convoy was dispatched to the scene.

Utilizing the available CCTV footage, the police discovered that the gang had fled towards Kadodara Char Road. Bardoli Nagar Police quickly informed the Kadodara GIDC Police about the incident. Upon intercepting an auto rickshaw carrying the six women and four children, the Kadodara GIDC Police recovered the stolen items and resolved the case.

The accused women had been living in the open under the Surat railway bridge and used a modus operandi of disguising themselves as beggars, often with children in tow. They targeted lone shopkeepers and used a black cloth screen to create a distraction before making off with cash and valuables.

The gang initially tried to mislead the police by withholding their real names and addresses, but further investigation revealed their criminal backgrounds. The Surat police have taken the gang into custody for further legal action.
