The Surat Crime Branch has successfully apprehended an inter-state criminal who was conspiring to murder a cafe owner from Ahmedabad and had arranged for a pistol for this purpose.

Acting on a tip-off, the Surat Crime Branch patrol team moved swiftly over the weekend to arrest Shoaib alias Shahrukh Aslam Shaikh, who was illegally carrying two country-made pistols and 10 cartridges near the National Garage on the road leading from Mandarwaja to Shastri Nagar in the city.

During interrogation, Shoaib revealed that the weapons were ordered by Mahalingam alias Shiva Murgayan Pillai and Firoz alias Langra Rizazuddin Shaikh. Subsequently, the police apprehended both individuals.

Further investigation revealed that Pillai had a business rivalry with Muksar Khan, Babu Mujahid, and Mushkin, the owner of Ratlam Cafe located on CG Road, Ahmedabad. Pillai intended to kill any of them, leading him to procure weapons from Shoaib.

Notably, Pillai was declared wanted by the police on March 6 for his involvement in the theft of silver worth Rs 70 lakh in Surendranagar, Gujarat. He has a history of criminal activities, with more than 21 cases of murder, robbery, and arms possession registered against him. Pillai has been previously arrested in 18 cases and has two cases registered against him in Vadodara and one in Gandhigram.
