Pakistan Bus Accident: 20 Dead, Including 3 Women
Tragic Incident in Diamer District, Gilgit Baltistan
A private passenger bus traveling from Rawalpindi to Gilgit met with a tragic accident in northwest Pakistan on Friday. The bus lost control near Gunar Farm on the Karakoram Highway in Diamer district and veered off the road, plummeting onto the banks of the Indus River. At least 20 people, including three women, lost their lives in the accident, which happened at 5:30 am.
The injured, numbering 21, were rushed to Chilas Hospital, with most reported to be in critical condition. Relief and rescue operations were promptly initiated, with army helicopters deployed to assist. Diamer Deputy Commissioner Faiyaz Ahmed reported that the condition of five injured passengers is critical, with two already transferred to Gilgit city for further treatment.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and directed authorities to ensure all possible medical assistance to the injured. The accident site, located 20 kilometers from Chilas city, saw the completion of relief and rescue operations, despite the challenging terrain of the mountainous region.
