Gujarat braces for intense heat, yellow alert issued

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Gujarat for the next three days, predicting intense heat. Ahmedabad recorded 34 degrees Celsius by 11 a.m. on Friday. The temperature is expected to reach 43 degrees on May 7, the day of Lok Sabha elections in the state.

The Meteorological Department has forecasted a yellow alert in Gujarat for the next three days, indicating a heatwave warning in many districts of South Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch. Ahmedabad experienced scorching heat on Friday, with the temperature reaching 29 degrees Celsius at 9 a.m. and climbing to 34 degrees by 11 a.m.

Voting for the Lok Sabha elections in Gujarat is scheduled for May 7, and the Meteorological Department predicts a heatwave affecting most districts of Gujarat on that day, with temperatures possibly reaching 43 degrees. Ahmedabad may experience its highest temperature of the season on voting day.

According to Meteorological Department Director Ashok Kumar Das, most districts of Gujarat will see maximum temperatures around 40 degrees for the next three days. Saurashtra-Kutch, including Ahmedabad and surrounding areas, may experience temperatures exceeding 40 degrees. Ahmedabad's temperature may reach 42 degrees for the next three days and touch 43 degrees on May 7 and 8 before dropping to 42 degrees.

Four districts in Saurashtra-Kutch, including Kutch, Porbandar, Gir-Somnath, and Bhavnagar, are likely to experience a heatwave for the next 3-5 days, prompting a yellow alert. Dry weather is expected due to north-western winds blowing across Gujarat.

Gujarat's lengthy coastline, approximately 1600 kilometers, will be impacted by hot, humid air for the next five days, affecting coastal areas from Akhaat in Kutch to Khambhat and other parts of South Gujarat, causing discomfort to residents.

On Friday, the weather department predicts temperatures to reach 40 degrees in Ahmedabad and surrounding districts. The previous day, Ahmedabad recorded a temperature of 41.4 degrees Celsius, with seven other cities in the state also experiencing temperatures above 40 degrees. Surendranagar recorded the highest temperature at 42 degrees Celsius.
