New Delhi- Online nominations (recommendations) for Padma Award-2025, to be announced on the occasion of Republic Day, have started from today. The last date for nomination for Padma Awards is September 15. Nominations for Padma Awards will be received online on the National Awards Portal.

The Union Home Ministry gave this information by issuing a press release on Wednesday. It says that the Padma awards (Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri) are among the highest civilian honors of the country. Established in the year 1954, these awards are announced every year on the occasion of Republic Day. Under these awards, people are honored for 'excellent work'. Padma Awards are given for special and extraordinary achievements and service in all fields and disciplines like arts, literature and education, sports, medicine, social service, science and engineering, public affairs, civil service, trade and industry etc. All persons without discrimination of caste, occupation, position or gender are eligible for these awards. Government servants other than doctors and scientists, including government servants working in public sector undertakings, are not eligible for Padma awards.

According to the release, the government is committed to making the Padma Awards the “People's Padma”. Therefore, all citizens are requested to enroll. Citizens can also nominate themselves. Concerted efforts can be made to identify talented individuals from among women, weaker sections of the society, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, persons with disabilities and those doing selfless service to the society, whose excellence and achievements truly deserve recognition.

The nomination should include all relevant details specified in the format available on the portal, including a quotation (maximum 800 words) in descriptive form, clearly mentioning the specific and exceptional achievements and service of the recommended person in the relevant field and discipline.
