Sunil Narine, the talented all-rounder from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has etched his name in IPL history by becoming the fifth highest wicket-taker, surpassing the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin. Narine accomplished this feat during KKR's recent match against Punjab Kings at Eden Gardens, where he bowled a tight spell, conceding just 24 runs and dismissing Riley Rossouw.
Narine's IPL journey has seen him play 170 matches and 169 innings, claiming 173 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 6.74. He has taken four wickets in a match four times and five wickets once, showcasing his bowling prowess in the tournament.
In comparison, Ashwin has taken 172 wickets in 204 matches and 201 innings, highlighting Narine's remarkable achievement.
The highest wicket-taker in IPL history remains Yuzvendra Chahal, who has taken 200 wickets in 153 matches at an average of 21.37. Chahal has claimed four wickets six times and five wickets once during his IPL career.
In the match where Narine achieved this milestone, KKR posted a formidable total of 261/6 in their 20 overs. Contributions from Phil Salt (75), Sunil Narine (71), Vektesh Iyer (39), Andre Russell (24), and captain Shreyas Iyer (28) propelled KKR to a commanding total.
In response, Punjab Kings chased down the target in 18.4 overs, thanks to a stellar century by Jonny Bairstow (108 not out) and explosive innings by Prabhsimran Singh (54), Riley Rosaev (26), and Shashank Singh (68 not out). KKR's next match is against Delhi Capitals (DC) at Eden Gardens on Monday.
