Gujarat Universities and Colleges to Commence New Academic Session from June 24

Gujarat's Education Department has announced a revised academic calendar for 2024-25, with the new session in government universities and related colleges starting from June 24. This results in a 49-day summer vacation to, accommodating the Lok Sabha elections in May.

The Education Department in Gujarat has released a common academic calendar for the upcoming academic year 2024-25, affecting the schedule for universities and colleges. As per the revised calendar, academic activities in government universities and affiliated colleges will commence from June 24, a departure from the previously scheduled June 16 start date. This adjustment results in a 49-day summer vacation for the academic year 2025.

The decision to alter the academic calendar was influenced by the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for May 7 in the state. To accommodate this, teachers advocated for a later start to the summer vacation, requesting it to begin from May 9 instead of May 1. Responding to these demands, the government included a summer break from May 9 to June 23 in the common calendar for all government universities. Consequently, the new academic year will officially begin on June 24. However, for new students enrolling in their first year, the session will commence from June 26.
