FIBA Gears Up for Paris Olympics: Preparations on Track

MIES, Switzerland - The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) is moving full steam ahead for the upcoming Paris Olympics, according to reports presented during the Central Board meeting held on Thursday at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball.

The meeting focused on preparations for both the men's and women's basketball tournaments at the Games. Additionally, reports were presented on the recently concluded Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments and the 3x3 Universality Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

While preparations for the Paris Games take center stage, FIBA is also looking ahead. The Central Board approved the draw for the Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 pre-qualifying tournaments, scheduled for August 19-25, 2024, in Mexico and Rwanda. The participating teams have been divided into four groups.

FIBA also announced changes to the official basketball rules, effective October 1, 2024. These amendments include error corrections and the removal of the head coach's challenge.

The Central Board meeting further addressed the ongoing situation with the national federations of Russia and Belarus, extending their current status until the next meeting in December 2024.
