Surat Airport Gets Boost: Phase 1 of Parallel Taxi Track Approved for Aircraft Movement

Long-Awaited Development to Improve Efficiency and Open Doors for New Flights

Surat Airport Gets Boost: Phase 1 of Parallel Taxi Track Approved for Aircraft Movement

The wait is finally over for Surat Airport! The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted approval for Phase 1 of the parallel taxi track, allowing aircraft to utilize the section from the runway to the PTT. This marks a significant development for the airport, paving the way for smoother air traffic management and potentially attracting new flights.

The project's Phase 1, completed in June 2023, faced an eight-month delay in receiving DGCA clearance. This delay even caused the postponement of the project's inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December 2023. With the recent approval, however, airlines can now start planning new routes to and from Surat.

The operational benefit of Phase 1 lies in its ability to handle multiple arriving aircraft simultaneously. Previously, situations with three or four planes landing at once would result in them circling in the air. This new taxiway will significantly improve traffic flow and overall airport efficiency.

While Phase 2 of the parallel taxi track remains incomplete after five years, the approval of Phase 1 is a crucial step forward for Surat Airport. This development is expected to enhance air connectivity and potentially lead to the introduction of new flights for the city.
