Lucknow, 20 April - The 34th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, played between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Friday at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, saw both team captains, KL Rahul and Ruturaj Gaikwad, fined Rs 12 lakh each for maintaining a slow over rate.

The league issued a statement late on Friday night, stating, "Lucknow Super Giants were found to have maintained a slow over-rate during the 34th match of IPL 2024 against Chennai Super Kings at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Captain KL Rahul has been fined Rs 12 lakh for this offense, which is the team’s first of the season under the IPL code of conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses."

The statement also mentioned, "Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during the match against Lucknow Super Giants. Since this was his team’s first offense of the season under the IPL code of conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses, Gaikwad was fined Rs 12 lakh."

In the match, Chennai Super Kings batted first, scoring 176 runs in 20 overs. Ravindra Jadeja played a crucial unbeaten half-century, scoring 57 runs off 40 balls with 5 fours and 1 six. Ajinkya Rahane (36 runs from 24 balls, 5 fours, 1 six) and Moeen Ali (30 runs from 20 balls, 3 sixes) also contributed significantly. Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored a quick 28 runs off 9 balls towards the end, including three fours and 2 sixes.

Lucknow chased down the target in 19 overs with 2 wickets down, thanks to brilliant half-centuries from opener Quinton T Kock (54) and captain KL Rahul (82). Mustafizur Rahman and Mathisa Pathirana took 1 wicket each for CSK.
