Hitman Reaches 500! Rohit Sharma Blazes Trail for Indian Six-Hitters

Mumbai - Rohit Sharma, the star batsman for India and Mumbai Indians (MI), has become the first Indian cricketer to smash a staggering 500 sixes in T20 cricket. This remarkable feat was achieved during the IPL match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

Dominant Knock, Historic Milestone:

Rohit displayed a dominant performance, scoring an unbeaten 105 runs off just 63 balls. His explosive innings included 11 boundaries and 5 sixes, helping him reach the coveted 500-six milestone in T20 cricket. With these additional sixes, his career total now stands at 502.

Giants of the Six-Hitting Game:

While Rohit has secured his place in the T20 six-hitting hall of fame, the record for most sixes in the format belongs to West Indies legend Chris Gayle with a staggering 1,056. Other players dominating the leaderboard include fellow West Indians Kieron Pollard (860 sixes) and Andre Russell (678 sixes), followed by New Zealand's Colin Munro (548 sixes).

A Match of Explosive Batting:

Despite his personal achievement, Rohit's team, Mumbai Indians, fell short of victory. Batting first, CSK posted a challenging total of 206 runs, with significant contributions from Ruturaj Gaikwad (69 runs), Shivam Dube (38 runs), and the ever-reliable MS Dhoni (unbeaten 66 runs). Mumbai's bowling attack saw Hardik Pandya claim two wickets, while Shreyas Gopal and Gerald Coetzee picked up one each.

MI's Chase Falls Short:

In pursuit of the target, Mumbai got off to a promising start with Ishan Kishan (23 runs) and Rohit Sharma adding a 70-run opening partnership. However, apart from Tilak Verma's knock of 31 runs, the batting order faltered, leaving Rohit unsupported. Mumbai ultimately fell short by 20 runs, managing only 186 for 6 wickets in their allotted overs. CSK's Matheesha Pathirana emerged as the bowling hero with a match-winning spell of 4 wickets for 28 runs.
