Surat Police Crackdown on Textile Market Fraudsters

Surat - A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed by Surat Police to tackle financial fraud and long-standing criminal activity in the city's textile market.

The SIT was established on the demand of FOSTTA (Federation of Surat Textile Traders' Associations) President Kailash Hakim and with the approval of Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi. The team will focus on cases involving fraud against textile traders, property takeover using forged documents, and unpaid credit purchases.

18 Officers to Investigate Outstanding Cases

The SIT comprises 18 officers, including a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), three Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors, and constables from the Crime Branch, Salabatpura police station, and the Eco Cell.

Working of SIT

  • Information on wanted accused in textile market fraud cases will be compiled by the Station House Officer (SHO) in-charge and submitted to ACP G.A. Sarvaiya.
  • ACP Sarvaiya will lead the team in forming investigative units to gather intelligence and apprehend the absconding accused.
  • The SIT will ensure arrest warrants are issued under CrPC Section 70 for any accused without existing warrants.
  • Bank accounts of the wanted individuals will be investigated.
  • Proper permissions will be obtained before conducting arrests within or outside Gujarat.
  • Progress reports on the actions taken by the teams will be submitted every fortnight.

This initiative is expected to bring significant relief to textile traders in Surat by expediting the resolution of pending fraud cases and delivering long-awaited justice.
