Indian Coast Guard Rescues 27 Bangladeshi Fishermen Stranded at Sea
Swift Action Ensures Safe Return After Boat Loses Steering
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully rescued 27 Bangladeshi fishermen whose boat became disabled and drifted into Indian waters. The rescue operation, conducted on Thursday, ensured the safe return of the crew to Bangladesh.
The incident occurred when the Indian Coast Guard Ship Amogh spotted the Bangladeshi fishing boat "Sagar II" drifting during a routine patrol near the India-Bangladesh International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). Upon investigation, the ICG discovered that the boat's steering gear had malfunctioned for two days, causing it to drift uncontrollably.
Despite attempts by the ICG's technical team to repair the damage at sea, the extent of the hull damage rendered the boat inoperable. Consequently, the ICG decided to tow the vessel back to the IMBL and facilitate its return to Bangladesh.
The Indian Coast Guard Regional Headquarters in Kolkata promptly contacted their Bangladeshi counterparts, who deployed the Coast Guard ship "Kamruzzaman" to receive the distressed vessel and crew. The handover took place smoothly at the IMBL on the evening of April 4th, with all 27 Bangladeshi fishermen safely transferred to the Bangladeshi Coast Guard ship.
This successful rescue operation highlights the Indian Coast Guard's commitment to maritime safety and regional cooperation. Their swift action ensured the well-being of the stranded fishermen and facilitated their safe return home.
