Surat Police Arrest Bangladeshi Woman Living Illegally in the City
Authorities Recover Aadhaar Card, COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate, and Bangladeshi Passport
Surat: A Bangladeshi woman living illegally in Surat's Salabatpura area has been arrested by the Special Operations Group (SOG) police. The authorities found an Indian Aadhaar card and a COVID-19 vaccination certificate, along with a Bangladeshi passport, in the woman's possession.
The SOG police launched a special operation to apprehend Bangladeshi nationals residing unlawfully in various parts of the city. During the operation, they received information about a 65-year-old woman, Maleka Begum, who was suspected of being from Bangladesh. Acting on this tip, the police arrested her in the Salabatpura area.
Initially, Begum claimed to be a resident of Surat and showed her Aadhaar card as proof. However, upon further questioning, she admitted to having entered Surat illegally from the Bangladesh border in 2020. The woman revealed that she had been living as a beggar in different parts of the city for the past three years.
The police are now investigating how and from whom Begum obtained the Indian identification documents, including the Aadhaar card. Additionally, they are looking into any possible hidden motives behind her decision to reside in Surat, given her circumstances.
