Ahmedabad Traffic Police Targets Parents Through "Helmet Sanskar" Campaign
Ahmedabad, April 3: In a bid to curb rising accident fatalities, the Ahmedabad Traffic Police has launched a unique initiative called "Helmet Sanskar." This campaign aims to raise awareness about helmet safety among parents by targeting their children.
The program involves distributing helmets to over 7,000 school children and using them as messengers to educate their families on the importance of wearing helmets. Helmets significantly reduce head injuries during accidents, and their use is mandatory by law. However, many people continue to neglect this crucial safety measure.
"Helmet Sanskar" leverages the influence children have on their parents. By receiving helmets from traffic police, children become enthusiastic about helmet safety and are likely to urge their parents to follow suit. This approach targets a critical gap, as many adults who prioritize their children's safety often neglect their own helmet use.
The campaign comes in response to a disturbing rise in accident deaths linked to not wearing helmets. The Ahmedabad Traffic Police cited two recent examples: a student fatality while riding with a friend, and a child succumbing to injuries after falling from a bike ridden by his unhelmeted father.
To address this issue, the traffic police collaborated with GIDCs (Gujarat Industrial Development Corporations) and companies to collect and distribute 7,000 helmets to school children. This innovative program highlights the importance of child safety and leverages the power of children's influence to promote helmet use among adults.
