Surat PSI Arrested by ACB for Taking Bribe

A female Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Manjulaben Shankarlal Pargi, posted at Lalgate police station in Surat, Gujarat, was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000. Her son, Ashwin, was also arrested in the operation.

The bribe was demanded from a technician working for a businessman who had filed an application at the Lalgate police station. According to the ACB, PSI Pargi, who was investigating the application, initially demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the technician to avoid custodial action against him. After negotiation, the amount was settled at Rs 8,000.

The businessman approached the Surat ACB upon learning about the bribe demand. The ACB then laid a trap and caught PSI Pargi and her son red-handed while accepting the bribe money at the Lalgate police station on Saturday evening.

Manjulaben Pargi, who became a PSI in 2017, reportedly draws a monthly salary of Rs 70,000. The Surat ACB has registered a case against the PSI and her son and is taking further action.
