Ahmedabad Gets Tough on Violators with AI-powered E-challan System
Ahmedabad : The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has announced a major crackdown on traffic and municipal rule violations using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. A new software system is being implemented that will utilize the city's network of over 5,000 CCTV cameras to automatically detect offenses and issue e-challans (electronic fines).
The system, expected to be operational within the next two months, will connect the cameras to a central control room equipped with AI-powered software. This software will be able to identify a wide range of violations, including:
- Traffic Violations: Disobeying red lights, using mobile phones while driving, not wearing seat belts or helmets, exceeding passenger limits, and operating heavy vehicles during restricted hours.
- Municipal Offenses: Parking in no-parking zones, driving on Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) corridors, spitting in public, littering, transporting uncovered materials in heavy vehicles, neglecting road repairs, illegal encroachments, and damaging public property.
Fines Delivered Electronically
Those caught violating these rules will be issued e-challans directly linked to the registered vehicle owner. This eliminates the need for on-the-spot interventions by police or municipal officers, streamlining the enforcement process.
The initiative aims to improve traffic flow, enhance public safety, and promote civic responsibility within Ahmedabad. The AI-powered system is expected to significantly increase the number of violations detected and addressed, leading to a more disciplined and orderly city environment.
