New Delhi, March 13 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part in the 'India's Teched: Chips for Developed India' event on Wednesday, marking a significant stride in India's technological advancement. Through video conferencing, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for three semiconductor facilities collectively valued at approximately Rs 1.25 lakh crore.
Highlighting the importance of semiconductors as the key to future progress, the Prime Minister emphasized that present decisions and policies would yield strategic benefits in the future. He underscored the centrality of technology in the 21st century, stating that electronic chips are indispensable in today's world. The production of 'Made in India' and 'Designed in India' chips, he noted, would propel the nation toward new achievements and self-reliance.
PM Modi hailed the occasion as a historic milestone, emphasizing its role in establishing India as a semiconductor hub. He envisioned that chip manufacturing would not only unlock development opportunities but also pave the way for limitless possibilities, generating new jobs and driving technological advancements.
Critiquing previous administrations for neglecting India's semiconductor aspirations, PM Modi lamented that although the country had harbored dreams of semiconductor manufacturing since the 1960s, lack of political will and commitment thwarted those ambitions. He criticized the short-sighted approach of previous governments, which failed to align India's priorities and capabilities, thereby impeding the progress of the semiconductor sector.
