Siliguri/New Delhi, March 09 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a gathering in Siliguri, West Bengal, on Saturday, highlighting the central government's commitment to the development of the state. Launching several projects worth over Rs 4500 crore at the 'Develop India Develop West Bengal' program, Modi emphasized the significance of these initiatives in propelling Bengal towards prosperity.
The Prime Minister underscored the neglect Eastern India faced in terms of development post-independence, asserting that his government views the region as a vital component of the nation's growth. He criticized previous administrations for overlooking the area's potential and assured unprecedented investment in connectivity to catalyze its development.
Noting the historical impediments to connectivity in the region, Modi highlighted the government's efforts to improve rail infrastructure, aiming to enhance speed and efficiency. He mentioned the modernization of over 500 railway stations, including Siliguri, under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, as a step towards upgrading the rail network in Bengal and the North-East.
Modi expressed optimism about further accelerating rail development in the region, indicating plans for a superfast expansion in the government's third term. He also mentioned the inauguration of rail connectivity from North Bengal to Bangladesh, underscoring the region's strategic importance as a gateway to the North-East.
