India Receives Prestigious Measles and Rubella Champion Award
New Delhi, March 8: India's tireless efforts in combating measles and rubella have been recognized with the prestigious Measles and Rubella Champion Award. The award was presented by The Measles and Rubella Partnership at a ceremony held at the Red Cross Headquarters in the US on March 6th.
Ambassador Sripriya Ranganathan, representing the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, received the award on behalf of India. This recognition highlights India's unwavering commitment to public health and its dedication to preventing the spread of these infectious diseases among children.
The award acknowledges India's significant progress in reducing measles and rubella cases. The country has implemented a series of comprehensive interventions, including a proactive vaccination drive in high-risk areas, innovative strategies to reach underserved populations, robust surveillance systems, and effective public awareness initiatives. These efforts have resulted in 50 districts consistently reporting zero measles cases and 226 districts with no rubella cases in the past year.
Despite facing challenges, India's commitment to public health has demonstrably reduced the spread of measles and rubella. This award serves as a testament to the success of these initiatives in protecting the health of its citizens.
