Dwarka Gets Major Boost: New Authority Formed for Tourism Infrastructure Development
Dwarka, Bet Dwarka, and Shivrajpur to See Upgraded Facilities
The pilgrimage town of Dwarka, birthplace of Lord Krishna, is set for a significant upgrade in tourism and infrastructure. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has announced the formation of the "Dwarka-Okha Urban Development Authority" to oversee the development of a vast area encompassing Dwarka, Okha, Bet Dwarka, Shivrajpur, and nearby villages.
This initiative targets a total area of 10,721 hectares, encompassing the municipalities of Dwarka and Okha alongside village panchayats like Arambhada, Surajkaradi, Bet Dwarka, Shivrajpur, and Barwala. Dwarka, a revered Hindu pilgrimage site with the iconic Dwarkadhish temple and Shankaracharya's monastery, attracts millions of devotees annually. The recent inauguration of the Sudarshan Setu bridge by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has further boosted accessibility to Bet Dwarka, another island pilgrimage destination.
Adding to the region's charm is Shivrajpur beach, Gujarat's sole "Blue Flag Beach" known for its pristine white sand and clear blue waters. Recognizing the immense tourism potential of this combined area, the newly formed authority aims to create a safe and enriching experience for travelers.
The "Dwarka-Okha Urban Development Authority" will be chaired by the Devbhoomi Dwarka district collector. Key members include the Secretary of Pavitra Yatradham Development Board, Chief Town Planner, Dwarka District Development Officer, Regional Municipal Commissioner (Rajkot), and Additional Resident of Devbhoomi Dwarka District. The authority will also have four locally elected members and the District Panchayat President.
Under the Chief Minister's vision, the Urban Development and Urban Housing Department will prepare a comprehensive Development Plan under the Gujarat Town Planning and Urban Development Act 1976. This plan will guide infrastructure advancements like improved roads, streetlights, gardens, and drainage systems across the designated area.
The formation of this authority is expected to significantly boost religious and tourism activities, attract new investments, create employment opportunities, and usher in a new era of economic development. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a developed India, where modernity seamlessly blends with religious significance, propelling Gujarat to the forefront of development.
