Ahmedabad: Fire Claims Life of 15-Day-Old Baby
Eight Others Injured in Danilimda Blaze
A devastating fire ripped through an apartment building in Ahmedabad's Danilimda area on Thursday morning, claiming the life of a 15-day-old newborn baby and injuring eight others.
The blaze erupted in the meter box of the Khwaja Flats building, located in Patel Vas. Fire officials suspect an electrical malfunction may have been the cause. The fire quickly spread from the parking lot, engulfing the second floor and triggering panic among residents. A stampede ensued as people rushed to escape the flames.
Firefighters arrived promptly upon receiving the emergency call at 6:15 am. Two fire engines from the Jamalpur Fire Station were deployed to extinguish the blaze. Thankfully, firefighters were able to rescue 27 residents trapped inside the building.
However, the fire's tragic toll became evident. Dr. Leena Dabhi, Superintendent of Maninagar LG Hospital, confirmed the death of the 15-day-old infant. Eight other individuals sustained burn injuries and smoke inhalation. They are currently receiving medical attention.
Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the fire. This incident underscores the importance of fire safety measures in residential buildings.
