Title: Illegal Abortion Leads to Arrests in Surat
Couple and Nurse Arrested After Discarding Fetus
Surat, India - The Limbayat police have arrested a couple and a nurse in connection with an illegal abortion and the subsequent disposal of the unborn fetus in the Limbayat area of Surat. The couple, Kanho Patra Pathade and Dnyaneshwar Pathade, had traveled from their home in Maharashtra to have the procedure done at Gulf Shores Shikha Hospital in Ranchhodnagar.
CCTV footage captured the nurse throwing the fetus from the roof of the hospital into a nearby creek. However, the fetus landed in a nearby shop instead, prompting the Limbayat police to track down and arrest the parents in Maharashtra.
The couple, who reside in Babhul village of Hingoli district in Maharashtra, work as laborers to support their family, which includes three children. They sought the illegal abortion due to financial constraints and fear of police harassment in their home state. They had contacted Shikha Hospital in Limbayat through a relative.
The illegal abortion was carried out on March 17, after which the couple entrusted the fetus to the nurse and returned to their village.
