Allahabad High Court Upholds Worship Rights in Gyanvapi's Vyasji Tehkhana

Prayagraj, February 26 : The Allahabad High Court has ruled in favor of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust, upholding its right to conduct worship in the Vyasji Tehkhana of the Gyanvapi complex. This decision comes after the Anjuman Intejamia Mosque challenged a January 17th order by the Varanasi District Judge granting the trust permission for worship in the disputed area.

The Gyanvapi mosque complex in Varanasi has been embroiled in a legal battle for decades, with the Hindu side claiming the site was originally a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, demolished by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in the 17th century to build the mosque. The Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust sought permission to conduct worship in the Vyasji Tehkhana, located within the mosque complex, which they believe was part of the original temple structure.

Court's Reasoning and Ruling

Justice Rohit Ranjan Aggarwal, presiding over the case in the High Court, meticulously examined all documents and arguments presented by both parties. He found no reason to overturn the District Judge's orders. The High Court upheld the appointment of the District Magistrate of Varanasi as the receiver of the property and the January 31st order allowing worship in the Vyasji Tehkhana.

This landmark decision by the Allahabad High Court paves the way for the Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust to continue worship activities in the Vyasji Tehkhana. However, it is likely that the Anjuman Intejamia Mosque may seek further legal recourse, potentially appealing the verdict in the Supreme Court. This complex case is likely to continue unfolding in the judicial system.
