AIIMS Rajkot Opens its Doors, Bringing Specialty Care to Gujarat
Gujarat's First AIIMS Inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi
Rajkot : Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated India's premier medical institute, AIIMS, in Rajkot, Gujarat, on Sunday. This marks a milestone moment for the state, becoming the first to house an All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
The new AIIMS, built at a cost of Rs 1195 crore, sprawls across 201 acres in Khanderi village. This state-of-the-art facility aims to provide affordable, multi-specialty healthcare to the citizens of Gujarat.
Advanced Care and Services Available
The hospital caters to various medical needs, offering:
- Super specialty facilities: Equipped to handle complex medical cases, ensuring advanced treatment options.
- Intensive Care Unit (ICU): Providing critical care to patients requiring intensive monitoring and support.
- 720 beds: Accommodating a large number of patients with diverse medical needs.
- 23 operation theaters: Equipped with cutting-edge technology to manage various surgical procedures.
- Comprehensive OPD services: Launched in December 2021, with 14 multi-specialty departments, treating an average of 400-500 patients daily from 9 am to 4 pm. Additionally, the OPD provides necessary medicines and facilitates "Abha card" creation for patients. As of February 2024, 144,614 individuals have benefitted from OPD services.
- Telemedicine services: E-Sanjeevani telemedicine service has been operational since February 24th, 2022, offering remote consultations to an average of 132 individuals daily. To date, 70,337 individuals have availed telemedicine consultations.
Inauguration Marks the Start of IPD Services
Following the inauguration, Rajkot AIIMS has also commenced operations for its 250-bed Inpatient Department (IPD), catering to patients requiring hospitalization. This includes an AYUSH block specifically dedicated to traditional Indian medicine practices.
Furthermore, the IPD boasts a dedicated 35-bed facility for emergency and trauma cases, offering immediate and critical care through services like Orthopedics, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and dental surgery, supported by a modular operation theater.
