Nanjing Fire: 15 Dead, 44 Injured in Residential Building Blaze

Beijing, Feb 24 : A fire tore through a residential building in Nanjing, China, on Friday, leaving 15 people dead and 44 injured. The victims have been hospitalized, and an investigation into the cause of the blaze is underway.

According to China's official newspaper, Global Times, the fire erupted at 4:39 AM in a building located in the Yuhuatai district of Nanjing. Preliminary investigations suggest that electric bicycles parked inside the building may have sparked the fire.

With a population exceeding eight million, Nanjing is situated roughly 260 kilometers northwest of Shanghai. Authorities reported that 25 fire trucks were deployed to extinguish the blaze, which was contained by 6:00 AM. Search and rescue operations concluded around 2:00 PM.

Officials are currently investigating the cause of the fire and providing assistance to the injured and families of the deceased.
