Surat Police Deploy Drones in Fight Against Chain Snatchers
Adajan Police Launch Pilot Project Using Drone Surveillance to Curb Mobile and Chain Snatching Crimes
SURAT - In an innovative effort to combat chain snatching and mobile theft, Surat city police have launched a pilot project using drone cameras to monitor criminal activity in the Adajan area. This marks the first time that state police will utilize drone technology to address this type of crime.
The project will focus on the area between Gujarat Gas Circle and Pal RTO in Adajan, with particular attention paid to the hours between 8 pm and 12 midnight. During this time, drone cameras will monitor potential chain snatchers while 16 employees patrol the area on eight bikes. Additionally, four other police officers will be stationed at checkpoints to inspect vehicles.
This pilot project is a first for state police in addressing snatching crimes. When an incident of chain or mobile snatching occurs, police will use drone cameras to chase the suspects' bikes, capturing their faces, bike numbers, and other identifying information. At the same time, police officers on bikes will take immediate action to apprehend the accused. The deployed drones will have a range of 5 kilometers and will be equipped with night vision capabilities.
According to R.B. Gojia, Police Inspector of Adajan Police Station, the Surat police force has initiated this pilot project to explore the potential of drone technology in crime prevention. In addition to the drone surveillance, 20 bike-borne police officers will continuously patrol the area. The combination of drone cameras and patrolling officers aims to make it increasingly difficult for chain snatchers to evade capture and escape.
The success of this pilot project in Adajan could pave the way for similar initiatives in other parts of Surat and beyond. By leveraging advanced technology such as drones, the police force seeks to enhance their ability to respond to crimes quickly and efficiently, ultimately increasing public safety and deterring would-be criminals.
As the project progresses, authorities will assess its effectiveness in reducing chain snatching and mobile theft incidents in the area. If proven successful, drone surveillance could become a standard tool in the ongoing fight against street crime in Surat and other regions in India.
This innovative approach to crime prevention showcases how technology can be utilized to support law enforcement efforts, providing new avenues for maintaining safety and security in communities.
