The Surat Municipal Corporation has issued a notification mandating the closure of all slaughterhouses run by the corporation on the upcoming festivals of Ram Navami and Mahavir Jayanti. The notification comes as the city is observing the ongoing Chaitri Navratri.
Ram Navami falls on March 30, while Mahavir Jayanti falls on April 4. The notification states that all licensees selling mutton-beef should pay attention to the mandate, and that action will be taken against violators under various provisions of the Bombay Police Act.
The Salabatpura and Rander slaughterhouses run by the Surat Municipal Corporation will remain closed on these days, as per the notification. The corporation has issued a public notice in this regard, reminding citizens that the closure of slaughterhouses on these festivals is an annual practice.
The notification has been issued to respect the religious sentiments of the people during these festivals. The corporation has also requested all citizens to cooperate and follow the mandate.
