Bengaluru is set to witness a significant boost in its urban infrastructure as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the much-awaited Yellow Line of the Bengaluru Metro on August 10. The announcement was made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tejasvi Surya on Sunday, who also confirmed that the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for Phase-3 of the metro network during his visit.

Surya, in a post on social media platform X, described the upcoming visit as historic for South Bengaluru. He emphasized that the Yellow Line's commencement and the initiation of Metro Phase-3 will benefit nearly 2.5 million residents in the region. He noted that the Yellow Line project will meet its targeted timeline of August 15 due to the Prime Minister’s personal intervention and insistence on timely completion for public benefit.

As per agency report, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, also shared details about the event on social media. He stated that the Yellow Line spans 19.15 kilometers, stretching from RV Road to Bommasandra with 16 stations, and has been built at a cost of Rs 5,056.99 crore. Additionally, Phase-3 of the metro, covering 44.65 kilometers at a projected cost of Rs 15,611 crore, will be a transformative expansion for the city’s mass transit network.

The inauguration of the Yellow Line is expected to ease traffic congestion and significantly improve connectivity across key areas of Bengaluru, aligning with the broader goals of urban mobility and sustainable development.

Bengaluru, April 22 – In a twist to the recent road rage incident in Bengaluru, city police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against a 40-year-old Indian Air Force (IAF) officer based on a complaint filed by a call centre employee who was earlier arrested in connection with the same case. As per agency report, the incident took place on Monday morning near Baiyappanahalli when IAF Wing Commander Shiladitya Bose was allegedly assaulted during a confrontation while en route to the airport with his wife, also an IAF officer.

Earlier, the police had arrested a man named Vikas Kumar, a team head at a software company’s call centre, after the officer filed a complaint alleging physical assault and verbal abuse. The incident quickly gained attention after Bose posted a video online showing his alleged harassment by a group of Kannada-speaking individuals on a motorbike.

In a surprising development, Kumar later submitted a counter-complaint claiming that it was Bose who physically assaulted him and damaged his motorcycle. A video that surfaced from the scene shows a heated argument and physical altercation, with Bose seen hitting Kumar while his wife attempts to intervene.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Devaraj D., an FIR has now been lodged at Baiyappanahalli police station against Bose under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code based on Kumar’s version of events. The DCP stated that preliminary investigation, including analysis of CCTV footage and videos recorded by bystanders, indicated that the altercation could have been avoided by both parties.

In a separate video message, Kumar’s mother Jyoti expressed concern over the handling of the case and alleged that the blame was being unfairly placed solely on her son. She appealed for justice and claimed that the IAF officer not only beat her son but also caused damage to his bike.

Police confirmed that the initial complaint was filed by Squadron Leader Madhumita Dutta, the officer’s wife, which led to Kumar’s arrest. Authorities have noted injuries sustained by both sides and stated that medical assistance was advised before formal registration of the complaint.

During questioning, Kumar claimed he had only asked for clarification after hearing a remark allegedly made by the officer’s wife. The situation then escalated, leading to the confrontation.

Police have acknowledged the presence of several video recordings and said that a detailed investigation is underway to determine the full sequence of events and assign responsibility accordingly.

New Delhi/Bengaluru, March 18 – The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches on Tuesday at locations linked to the Open Society Foundation (OSF), backed by American billionaire George Soros, in Bengaluru. The raids were carried out as part of an investigation into alleged violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), official sources confirmed.

As per agency report, ED officials searched the premises of OSF and several international human rights organizations over concerns related to foreign funding. The investigation focuses on alleged foreign direct investment (FDI) received by OSF and its misuse by certain beneficiaries in violation of FEMA guidelines.

As per agency reports, there has been no official response from OSF regarding the ED action.

Soros, a Hungarian-American political activist and philanthropist, has been a controversial figure in Indian political discourse. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused Soros and OSF of working against India's interests. His remarks during the Adani-Hindenburg controversy had also drawn strong criticism from the party.

OSF has been operating in India since 1999, primarily funding civil society initiatives and advocacy programs. The ED’s investigation is expected to further scrutinize its financial activities and compliance with Indian regulations.

Bengaluru, February 19 – A district consumer court in Bengaluru has found PVR INOX guilty of unfair trade practices for delaying movie screenings due to excessive advertisements. The court has directed the multiplex chain to pay ₹1 lakh in punitive damages and ensure that viewers are provided with a clear and accurate movie start time.

The case was filed by a Bengaluru resident who, along with two family members, attended a 4:05 PM screening of the film "Sam Bahadur" in December 2023. However, due to prolonged advertisements, the actual screening began at 4:30 PM, disrupting their schedule and wasting their time.

The court awarded the complainant ₹20,000 for inconvenience and mental distress, along with ₹8,000 in litigation costs. Emphasizing the value of time in today’s fast-paced world, the court ruled that businesses cannot exploit consumers’ time and money unfairly.

The judgment noted that spending 25 to 30 minutes on advertisements is a significant waste of time, particularly for those with busy schedules. It stated that while movies serve as entertainment, viewers still have other responsibilities, and their time should be respected.

PVR INOX defended its actions by citing government regulations that mandate the screening of public service announcements (PSAs) before films. However, the court pointed out that these guidelines limit such screenings to a maximum of 10 minutes.

The complainant had recorded the advertisements as evidence, prompting PVR INOX to argue that this violated anti-piracy laws. The court dismissed this claim, clarifying that only advertisements were recorded—not the film—and that the recording was done solely to highlight the issue affecting viewers.

Bengaluru, February 5 – A video of former Indian cricket captain Rahul Dravid engaged in an argument with an auto-rickshaw driver has surfaced online, rapidly gaining traction on social media.

The incident reportedly took place on Tuesday evening on Cunningham Road, Bengaluru. Dravid, known for his composed demeanor, was seen speaking in Kannada, questioning the auto driver about why he failed to apply the brakes.

According to High Grounds Traffic Police, which has jurisdiction over Cunningham Road, Dravid has not filed any official complaint regarding the incident.
