Ahmedabad, Jan 11 (IANS) During the second day of the ‘Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit’, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman delivered an overview of Gujarat International Finance Tec-City's (GIFT City) financial ecosystem.

According to Sitharaman, GIFT City has evolved into a dynamic hub, housing three exchanges, 26 banks, 26 aircraft lessors, 86 fund managers, and eight ship leasing companies.

It also boasts the presence of 50 professional firms and a total of 580 entities.

The Finance Minister underscored GIFT City's strategic role in attracting various sectors, including fintech, aircraft leasing, and ship leasing industries.

Highlighting the impressive financial growth within GIFT City, Sitharaman revealed that “the derivative contracts in the city had soared to a value of $2.02 billion as of October. This remarkable growth indicates GIFT City’s crucial role in the global financial landscape, particularly in the fintech sector, where it boasts an 80 per cent adoption rate – the highest globally.”

Sitharaman also emphasised the need for international fintech companies looking to operate in India to establish a presence in GIFT City.

This mandate reflects the city's pivotal position in India's financial strategy and its capability to bridge the gap between local and global financial markets.

Additionally, Sitharaman noted the city's significant investment in green bonds, totaling $10.18 billion, underscoring its commitment to sustainable financial practices.

The resilience and expansion of the Indian stock market were also focal points of Sitharaman’s address.

She attributed this success to the active participation of retail investors and the stability of the country’s policy environment.

"Our thriving stock market is a testament to the steady policies and the involvement of regular investors," Sitharaman remarked.

Gandhinagar, Jan 10 (IANS) Japanese carmaker Suzuki Motor will invest Rs 35,000 crore to build a second car plant in Gujarat, company president Toshihiro Suzuki said at an investment summit in the state on Wednesday.

“The new plant will produce one million units a year as a result of which the company’s annual production in Gujarat will become two million units,” Suzuki said.

The country’s largest carmaker at present has a total production capacity of around 22 lakh units per annum across its two manufacturing plants in Haryana and Gujarat.

The company is also setting up a new manufacturing plant at Sonipat in Haryana, on the outskirts of Delhi, with an investment of Rs 11,000 crore to expand production.

New Delhi, Jan 10 (IANS) Tata Group on Wednesday announced plans to build a state-of-the-art semiconductor fabrication plant in Gujarat, as India begins the journey to become a global chip hub.

Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran, speaking at the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in Gandhinagar, said that Tata Group is on the verge of finalising and announcing a substantial semiconductor fabrication plant at Dholera in the state.

"We are about to complete negotiations for the semiconductor fab and start in 2024," he told the gathering.

The company is also likely to commence the construction of a 20 gigawatts battery storage factory in Gujarat within the next few months.

“This ambitious initiative marks a strategic move by Tata to bolster its presence in the renewable energy sector and contribute to India's growing focus on sustainable power solutions," said Chandrasekaran.

The Tata Group is also planning to build one of India's largest iPhone assembly plants in Tamil Nadu's Hosur.

According to media reports, the facility is expected to feature around 20 assembly lines and employ 50,000 workers within two years. The site is expected to be operational within 12 to 18 months.

In September last year, US-based Micron Technology started the construction of a Rs 22,500 crore facility in Sanand, Gujarat, that will set a benchmark for India’s semiconductor journey.

The engineering major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has also announced to invest up to Rs 830 crore to build a fabless semiconductor chip design subsidiary which will ramp up the country's plan to become a semiconductor hub.

Gandhinagar, Jan 10 (IANS) At the inaugural day of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined India's ambitious goal to transform into a developed nation by its centenary year of Independence in 2047, and assured the community to 'dream big as he has the resolve to fulfill those aspirations'.

Addressing the summit in Gandhinagar, PM Modi referred to the next 25 years as 'Amrit Kaal', a critical phase in India's development journey.

"India, having recently completed 75 years of Independence, is now geared towards its next major milestone. We aim to be recognised as a developed country when we mark a century of independence," he said.

The 10th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, initially launched in 2003 during Modi's tenure as Chief Minister, saw participation from over 100 countries, reflecting its global stature and significance in fostering international business and diplomatic relations.

PM Modi emphasized India's rapid economic growth, saying, "A decade ago, India ranked 11th globally in economic size. Today, we stand at the 5th position and are poised to enter the top 3."

He assured the attendees of India's focus on critical sectors such as AI, innovation, green hydrogen, and semiconductors, with visible progress showcased in the trade show. He also highlighted structural reforms undertaken to ensure sustainable growth.

"I assure you, dream big, as I have the resolve to fulfill those aspirations," PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the significance of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed's participation in the summit.

"The presence of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed as the chief guest is not just a matter of honor but also symbolizes the robust and growing ties between India and the UAE," PM Modi remarked.

He credited the UAE for its substantial role in India's development and mentioned the strengthened relationships with African nations during his tenure.

New Delhi, Jan 10 (IANS) Lakshmi Mittal, Chairman of ArcelorMittal, said the Hazira site of AM/NS India will be one of the world's largest single-location integrated steel plants with a total capacity of 24 MTPA of crude steel production.

“We are fully confident that with the support of the Gujarat government, we will be able to commission this full site in the next five years. We continue to invest not only in steel but also in emerging sectors like renewable energy and green hydrogen,” Mittal said at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2024 in Ahmedabad.

“Steel is one of the primary contributors to any nation’s journey towards self-reliance. At the heart of Atmanirbharta, is steel which supports a range of applications across sectors such as infrastructure, urbanisation, renewables, automotive including electric vehicles, defence, and railways.

"By bringing the best of global technology, we are developing high end products which helps steel consumers across MSMEs to start-ups to become competitive.

“At this Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024, we have signed MoUs for phase 2 of the project. I am proud to say that this expansion project is progressing rapidly and as per target, its Phase 1 will be completed by 2026," he added.

New Delhi, Jan 9 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended a warm welcome to the President of Timor-Leste, Dr Jose Ramos Horta, and his delegation to the Vibrant Gujarat Summit in Gandhinagar on Tuesday. This is the first ever Head of State or Government level visit between the two countries.

The Prime Minister re-affirmed India’s commitment to build a vibrant 'Delhi-Dili' connect. Dili is the capital of Timor-Leste. In September 2023, PM Modi had announced the opening of the Indian Mission in the country. He offered assistance to Timor-Leste in capacity building, human resource development, IT, fintech, energy and healthcare, including traditional medicine and pharma, according to a PMO statement.

PM Modi also invited Timor-Leste to join the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI).

He congratulated President Horta for ASEAN’s in-principle decision to admit Timor-Leste as its 11th member and expressed hope for its attainment of full membership soon.
