A dedicated seminar titled "Building Work Force for Future: Development of Skills for Industries 4.0" on Thursday underscored the state's commitment to preparing its youth for the jobs of tomorrow.

Union Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Dharmendra Pradhan set the tone, asserting, "What Gujarat thinks today, the country follows tomorrow." He commended Gujarat's dedication to the educational and training sector, recognizing its crucial role in providing skilled manpower for the burgeoning industrial landscape.

Pradhan highlighted the government's focus on empowering the nation's young population, stating, "65% of India's population is under 35. Industry 4.0 and skill development are key to their success in the 21st century." He cited the proliferation of startups under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership as a testament to this commitment, with over 1 lakh startups now flourishing, over 100 of them achieving "unicorn" status.

Gujarat Labor and Employment Minister Balwant Singh Rajput elaborated on the state's early adoption of upskilling initiatives. He credited Modi, then Chief Minister, for launching the Skill Development Mission in 2009, paving the way for Gujarat to become the first state to establish Kaushalya-The Skill University. Additionally, the state has empowered ITI institutes to prepare manpower for roles in artificial intelligence, robotics, and digital technology.

Industry leaders also emphasized the urgency of adapting to the digital era. Hem Takiyar, Vice President of Micron Semiconductor, pointed out, "The age of Industry 4.0 is the era of data. We need to prepare the workforce for this data-driven future."

The seminar witnessed the signing of 14 MoUs between leading companies and educational institutions, including Micron, ArcelorMittal, L&T Edu Tech, and Kaves Pak. These partnerships aim to bridge the gap between industry needs and skilled workforce availability, bolstering Gujarat's position as a hub for Industry 4.0 talent.

In conclusion, the "Building Work Force for Future" seminar showcased Gujarat's proactive approach to preparing its youth for the jobs of tomorrow. With a focus on Industry 4.0 skills and strategic partnerships, the state is positioned to lead the way in India's journey towards a digitally empowered future.

Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], January 12: Micron Technology, Inc (NASDAQ: MU), one of the world’s largest semiconductor companies, and the New Age Makers Institute of Technology (NAMTECH), an ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) education initiative, have formalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to partner on advancing the development of the world-class talent pipeline required to propel India’s semiconductor manufacturing ambitions, which is projected to quadruple to a capitalisation of USD 110 billion by 2030. The MoU was signed at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit in the presence of Union Cabinet Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics, and Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The partnership will include experiential education and training programs focused on cultivating a highly proficient, globally competitive pool of talent with diverse and sustainable engineering career paths and is aligned with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) for capacity development. ISM aims to create a robust, self-sufficient semiconductor assembly and test ecosystem to enable India’s emergence as a global hub for electronics manufacturing and design.

“With the collaboration between Micron and NAMTECH, we are shaping the future of semiconductor education and manufacturing in India, while sculpting a global narrative of innovation and technological prowess,” said Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Cabinet Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics, and IT. “This partnership, forged under the umbrella of the India Semiconductor Mission, propels our nation towards a self-sufficient and pioneering role in the semiconductor landscape. With unwavering commitment, we stride confidently into a new era, leveraging the synergies between academia and industry, ultimately contributing to India’s technological ascendancy on the world stage. To further support the semiconductor industry and its ecosystem, we also request Micron to establish a Center of Excellence in Gujarat.”

Micron’s track record of developing industry-leading manufacturing operations—and the people that lead them—will play a pivotal role in assisting NAMTECH in the creation of the industry-grade semiconductor assembly and test laboratories, clean rooms and other peripheral infrastructure required to establish an incubation hub that gives students immersive and empirical learning experiences with cutting-edge equipment.

“This synergistic collaboration with NAMTECH is an opportunity to build the talent and skill essential to the semiconductor assembly and test industry,” said Gursharan Singh, Micron’s Senior Vice President of Global Assembly and Test Operations. “The partnership enables us to leverage India’s well-established talent pipeline for the semiconductor ecosystem, not just regionally but also on a global scale.”

Micron and NAMTECH are committed to enriching the academic resources needed to nurture a diverse talent pool through bespoke, hands-on learning, curriculum development and faculty training. The partnership aims to provide internships and employment opportunities for NAMTECH students, bring together students and industry luminaries, organise academic excursions to industrial precincts, and facilitate technical projects.

“The partnership with Micron heralds a new chapter for NAMTECH, an establishment created by, for, and with industry,” said Sanjay Sharma, NAMTECH Board member and Vice President of ArcelorMittal. “NAMTECH’s deep focus on experiential learning, coupled with Micron’s preeminence in semiconductor technologies, will cultivate skilled specialists adept at navigating the intricacies of a rapidly evolving sector that will continue to rise in the Indian subcontinent and beyond.”

Micron will look to NAMTECH as an ongoing staffing source for highly trained talent for its global manufacturing units and a steady pipeline for domestic industry. Micron’s upcoming assembly and test facility in Sanand, Gujarat, will create approximately 5,000 direct Micron jobs and 15,000 community jobs in the coming years.

According to Sitharaman, GIFT City has evolved into a dynamic hub, housing three exchanges, 26 banks, 26 aircraft lessors, 86 fund managers, and eight ship leasing companies.

It also boasts the presence of 50 professional firms and a total of 580 entities.

The Finance Minister underscored GIFT City's strategic role in attracting various sectors, including fintech, aircraft leasing, and ship leasing industries.

Highlighting the impressive financial growth within GIFT City, Sitharaman revealed that “the derivative contracts in the city had soared to a value of $2.02 billion as of October. This remarkable growth indicates GIFT City’s crucial role in the global financial landscape, particularly in the fintech sector, where it boasts an 80 per cent adoption rate – the highest globally.”

Sitharaman also emphasised the need for international fintech companies looking to operate in India to establish a presence in GIFT City.

This mandate reflects the city's pivotal position in India's financial strategy and its capability to bridge the gap between local and global financial markets.

Additionally, Sitharaman noted the city's significant investment in green bonds, totaling $10.18 billion, underscoring its commitment to sustainable financial practices.

The resilience and expansion of the Indian stock market were also focal points of Sitharaman’s address.

She attributed this success to the active participation of retail investors and the stability of the country’s policy environment.

"Our thriving stock market is a testament to the steady policies and the involvement of regular investors," Sitharaman remarked.

With over 150 flights expected, including VVIP movement, comprehensive parking arrangements have been put in place to ensure a seamless flow of air traffic without disrupting scheduled commercial flights.

Ahmedabad Takes Center Stage:

Ahmedabad Airport, the main gateway to the summit, will be the focus of activity. A total of 43 parking slots have been designated for a diverse mix of aircraft, including charter, non-charter, scheduled, and non-scheduled flights. To minimize disruptions to regular passengers, domestic travelers are advised to arrive 3 hours prior to their scheduled departures due to anticipated VVIP movements.

Rajkot and Surat Stand Ready:

In anticipation of an overflow at Ahmedabad, both Surat and Rajkot airports have been placed on standby for parking additional charter jets. Should the anticipated 150 flights exceed capacity at these three airports within Gujarat, arrangements have even been made to divert certain flights to Indore Airport in neighboring Madhya Pradesh.

VVIP Treatment and Secured Skies:

Recognizing the high-profile nature of the summit, Ahmedabad Airport has allocated 10 dedicated parking slots for VVIP aircraft, catering to representatives of major corporations like Reliance and international dignitaries like the Prince of Dubai. Separate and secure parking areas have also been designated for other charter and special aircraft, ensuring the safety and privacy of all guests.

The meticulous planning and flexible arrangements showcase the commitment of Indian authorities to deliver a smooth and successful Vibrant Gujarat Summit. As private jets carrying heads of state, industry leaders, and international delegates fill the skies above Gujarat, the summit promises to be an event of epic proportions, taking to the air what began as a vision on the ground.
