He described the retaliatory military operation as “Operation Sindoor,” a powerful symbol of India’s strength and resolve against terrorism.

As per agency report, Modi was addressing a public gathering in Palana, near Deshnok, during his visit to Rajasthan. He emphasized that the Indian armed forces, following the Pahalgam attack in April that claimed 26 lives, were given complete operational freedom. What followed, he said, was a precise and forceful retaliation that destroyed key terrorist infrastructure within minutes.

The Prime Minister stated that the 22-minute operation resulted in the demolition of nine major terror hideouts across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). He added that India’s response was not merely driven by rage but was a new form of justice, reflecting a powerful and self-reliant India.

During his address, Modi asserted that India is no longer intimidated by threats of nuclear weapons and made it clear that there would be no trade or dialogue with Pakistan. The only subject for discussion, he said, would be Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. He also underlined a new three-pronged doctrine to combat terrorism: firm retaliation to any attack, no tolerance for nuclear intimidation, and treating terror groups and their state sponsors as one and the same.

Modi said the world, and India's enemies, had now witnessed what happens when “sindoor turns into firepower.” He noted that this was not about vengeance but about justice delivered through Indian strength.

The Prime Minister also touched upon the broader geopolitical implications of the operation, noting that Pakistan, having failed in direct wars against India, had long relied on terrorism as a proxy weapon. He warned that every terrorist attack now would come at a steep cost—borne by the Pakistani military and its fragile economy.

On the development front, Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for various infrastructure projects worth over ₹26,000 crore. These included the redevelopment of Deshnok railway station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and the flagging off of the Bikaner-Mumbai Express. He said these initiatives are part of a nationwide effort to modernize India’s infrastructure, with high-speed trains like Vande Bharat and Namo Bharat symbolizing the country’s new momentum.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi visited the revered Karni Mata Temple in Deshnok, where he offered prayers. He was accompanied by Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.

The visit, combining national security, infrastructure development, and cultural significance, aimed to reinforce the government’s narrative of a bold, modern, and spiritually grounded India.

The groom, who had reached the border crossing with his family, was turned back by authorities citing heightened security concerns.

Shaitan Singh, a 25-year-old resident of Indroi village in Barmer, was scheduled to marry Kesar Kanwar, a 21-year-old woman from Umarkot district in Pakistan’s Sindh province, on April 30. After extensive preparations, Singh and his family had traveled to the Attari-Wagah border, only to find that their plans were halted due to the border's closure following increased tensions.

As per agency report, authorities at the border denied them entry, citing the suspension of cross-border movement in the aftermath of the attack in Pahalgam. Singh had been engaged to Kesar Kanwar for four years, and after persistent efforts, visas were finally granted to him, his father, and his brother earlier this year on February 18.

The family set out for the Attari border on April 23 and reached a day later, but by April 24, the escalating tensions led to the suspension of border crossings. Speaking about the situation, Singh said, "We had waited a long time for this day. What the terrorists did was wrong. My wedding was supposed to happen, but now we are not allowed to cross. What can we do? It is a matter of the border."

Although their visas remain valid until May 12, the family is now holding onto the hope that the border might reopen within this period, allowing the marriage to take place.

Surendra Singh, a cousin of Shaitan Singh, shared that the current situation has deeply disappointed both families. He added that relatives from Pakistan who had come for the wedding also had to return, lamenting that terrorist incidents cause immense damage, harming relationships and halting cross-border movements.

Shaitan Singh’s marriage was arranged through familial ties, a common tradition among the Sodha Rajput community, which maintains strong cultural links across the India-Pakistan border. A significant population of Sodha Rajputs resides in Pakistan’s Sindh province, and it is customary among them to arrange marriages within the community to preserve their cultural heritage.

For now, Shaitan Singh and his family remain hopeful that conditions will improve, and they will still be able to travel across the border to celebrate the long-awaited union.

The visit took place under tight security arrangements, with the family departing from the luxurious Rambagh Palace Hotel and arriving at the fort around 9:30 AM.

As per agency report, the Vance family was accorded a traditional Rajasthani welcome upon entering the UNESCO World Heritage site. Decorated elephants Chanda and Mala greeted them at the main courtyard, Jaleb Chowk, raising their trunks in a ceremonial gesture.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari welcomed the American delegation at the fort. During the visit, the family enjoyed a vibrant cultural performance that included traditional folk dances such as Ghoomar, Kalbelia, and Kachhi Ghodi, showcasing the rich heritage of Rajasthan.

Vice President Vance, accompanied by sons Ivan and Vivek, walked along the red carpet laid out at the fort, while his wife Usha Vance carried their daughter Mirabel. The family appeared captivated by the fort’s grand courtyards and intricate architecture.

To facilitate the visit, the fort was closed to the general public from noon on Monday for 24 hours. Located about 11 kilometers from Jaipur city, Amer Fort is nestled in the Aravalli Hills and is constructed from yellow and pink sandstone combined with white marble. The sprawling structure is divided into four main sections, each with its own courtyard.

Originally the capital of the Kachwaha Rajputs before Jaipur was established, the fort was commissioned by Raja Man Singh I in the late 16th century. Subsequent rulers, including Raja Jai Singh I and Sawai Jai Singh II, made structural enhancements and interior modifications to suit their tastes and needs. The fort's construction was completed in four phases.

Amer Fort was once the royal residence of Rajput kings and their families. Key attractions within the palace complex include the Diwan-e-Aam (Hall of Public Audience), Diwan-e-Khas (Hall of Private Audience), Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Palace), and Sukh Niwas (Hall of Pleasure). The Sheesh Mahal is particularly famous for its intricate mirror work, which reflects even a single ray of light to illuminate the entire hall.

Given the high-profile nature of the visit, comprehensive security measures were enforced throughout the city. Traffic was rerouted from areas where the official motorcade was scheduled to pass.

The tragedy claimed the lives of eight people, including two children, and left 35 others injured, with many in critical condition, officials confirmed.

Prime Minister, President Condole Actions

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh for each victim’s family and ₹50,000 for the injured from the PM's National Relief Fund. President Droupadi Murmu also extended her grief, praying for the victims and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

Details of the Incident

The accident occurred around 5:45 AM on the Jaipur-Ajmer National Highway when a speeding truck rammed into the LPG tanker near Bhankrota. The collision caused the tanker's valve to break, leading to a massive gas leak and a subsequent explosion that engulfed the surrounding vehicles, including two buses and over 29 trucks.

Video footage from the scene showed people fleeing for their lives, with some attempting to extinguish flames on their burning clothes. The fire was so intense that it turned the highway into a raging inferno, with smoke visible from over a kilometer away.

Casualties and Injuries

Medical officials reported eight deaths due to severe burns and suffocation from the dense smoke, which transformed the area into a "gas chamber." Thirty-five injured individuals, some critically burned, are receiving treatment at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital, where additional wards have been opened to handle the emergency.

Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar confirmed that nearly half of the injured are on ventilators. “The situation is critical, and all medical personnel have been mobilized to provide urgent care,” he said.

Rescue and Relief Efforts

More than 25 ambulances rushed to the scene, transporting victims to nearby hospitals. The fire brigade, initially unable to access the burning vehicles, eventually brought the blaze under control after several hours. Three petrol pumps in the vicinity narrowly escaped damage.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma visited the site and later met the injured at SMS Hospital. He assured the public of a thorough investigation and promised strict measures to prevent such incidents in the future. “This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are taking all necessary steps to support the victims and their families,” he said.

Traffic Disruption and Environmental Impact

The fire severely impacted a 300-meter stretch of the highway, causing traffic congestion for hours. Witnesses reported burning debris scattered across the road, and the heat melted nearby factory pipes, causing further damage.

Environmental concerns were raised as several birds were found dead in the vicinity, and residents complained of irritation in their eyes and breathing difficulties due to the thick smoke.

Investigation Underway

Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph stated that preliminary investigations revealed the fire started due to a gas leak caused by the tanker's broken nozzle. Forensic experts have collected evidence, and a team from the Regional Transport Office is examining the vehicles involved.

Support and Helpline Numbers

The Jaipur administration has deployed a special team to assist families of the victims at SMS Hospital. Police have also set up a helpline to provide updates and support to those affected.

This tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the critical need for stricter road safety measures and enhanced emergency response capabilities on India’s highways.
