Mumbai, October 11: Following the passing of Ratan Tata, Noel Tata has been unanimously chosen as the new chairman of Tata Trusts. The decision was made during a meeting held in Mumbai on Friday, marking a significant leadership transition within the Tata Group.

Official sources have confirmed that Noel Tata, the half-brother of the late Ratan Tata, has been unanimously selected to chair the Tata Trusts. These trusts hold a controlling stake in Tata Sons, the primary holding company of the Tata Group.

Noel Tata is currently the chairman of several group companies, including Tata International Limited, Voltas Limited, and Tata Investment Corporation Limited. He also serves as the vice-chairman of Titan Company. Given his deep family ties and involvement in multiple Tata Group companies, Noel was seen as a strong candidate to continue the Tata legacy.

Already serving as a trustee of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the Sir Ratan Tata Trust, which hold significant stakes in Tata Sons, Noel Tata was well-positioned for this leadership role. These trusts collectively control 66% of Tata Sons, the core holding company of the $130 billion Tata Group, managing diverse sectors ranging from automobiles to aviation.

Noel Tata's appointment follows the passing of 86-year-old Ratan Tata, who served as the honorary chairman of Tata Sons and headed Tata Trusts. Tata Trusts is managed by a board of 13 trustees and is considered one of India's foremost charitable institutions.

It is noteworthy that Tata Trusts play a pivotal role in the governance of the Tata Group, controlling a 66% stake in Tata Sons. Through their philanthropic initiatives, these trusts donated approximately ₹456.42 crore (about $56 million) during the fiscal year 2022-23.

Ahmedabad, October 10  – Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel expressed his deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences on the demise of Padma Vibhushan awardee and Tata Group chairman, Ratan Tata. In his message, Patel described Ratan Tata's passing as a profound loss for the nation, stating that India has lost a true gem whose contributions to the country can never be replaced.

The Chief Minister highlighted how Ratan Tata brought pride to the nation in the global industrial sector. He remarked, "As we mourn his passing, I offer my deepest condolences and heartfelt tribute." CM Patel traveled to Mumbai on Thursday morning to pay his respects. At the National Centre for Performing Arts in Nariman Point, Mumbai, where Ratan Tata's mortal remains were kept for public homage, CM Patel offered his final respects and paid tribute to the departed industrial icon.

Mumbai – The nation is mourning the passing of industrialist Ratan Tata, and actress Simi Garewal has taken to Instagram to share a heartfelt tribute. She posted a photo from the time she interviewed Tata, accompanied by an emotional caption. 

In her Instagram post, Simi Garewal wrote with the hashtag of Ratan Tata, "Everyone says you've gone... It's hard to accept that you're no longer here... So very hard... Goodbye, my friend."

Netizens have been paying their respects to Tata in the comments on Garewal’s post. Simi Garewal's talk show was widely popular, and during one of the episodes, Ratan Tata appeared as a guest, discussing his personal life, marriage, and relationships.

In an earlier interview, Simi Garewal had spoken openly about her bond with Ratan Tata. She commented, "Ratan and I shared a very old relationship. His sense of humor was remarkable, and he was a true gentleman. For him, money was never the most important thing. While he lived a comfortable life abroad, he was incredibly busy and committed in India."

Mumbai/New Delhi, October 9  – The demise of India's esteemed industrialist Ratan Tata has sent waves of sorrow throughout the business community. Tata passed away at the age of 86 on Wednesday night at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. Leading figures, including Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and SBI Chairman C.S. Shetty, have expressed deep condolences, calling Tata's death an immense and irreparable loss for all Indians.

Mukesh Ambani, India's richest businessman, released a statement saying, "This is a profoundly sad day for India and Indian industry. Ratan Tata's passing is not just a loss for the Tata Group but a tremendous loss for every Indian." Ambani shared his personal grief, saying, "I am deeply saddened by the loss of a dear friend. Every meeting with Ratan Tata inspired me... Ratan Tata, you will always remain in my heart."

Kumar Mangalam Birla, head of the Aditya Birla Group, also shared his sorrow, noting that with Tata's passing, India and its industrial sector have lost a visionary leader. He stated, "His decisions impacted not only economic growth but also touched lives and industries beyond. For decades, my family and I have had close ties with him. He embodied the best ideals of the Tata Group. His legacy will inspire future generations of Indians to achieve success with integrity."

Anish Shah, Managing Director and CEO of Mahindra Group, posted on X, saying, "Ratan Tata's vision extended beyond business, inspiring a generation to work with purpose and integrity."

Venu Srinivasan, Honorary Chairman of TVS Motor Company, shared, "The late Ratan Tata was truly an exceptional businessman who put the nation above business interests. His vision was truly transformative for the country and its people." Srinivasan added, "Tata was a once-in-a-century kind of industrialist."

RPSG Group Chairman Sanjiv Goenka said, "The world has lost a true visionary and humanitarian with the passing of Ratan Tata." He further remarked that Tata's unparalleled contributions to business and society will forever remain part of his legacy.

Sangita Reddy, Joint Managing Director of Apollo Hospitals, expressed her grief, stating, "Ratan Tata inspired countless individuals. I recall some of my meetings with him and feel deeply saddened... Each meeting left a lasting impact through his wisdom and kindness."

SBI Chairman C.S. Shetty also expressed his sorrow, acknowledging Tata's significant influence on the industrial and philanthropic landscape of India. Washington, October 10 - Cornell University has paid a heartfelt tribute to its esteemed alumnus, Ratan Tata, following his passing. The university's website features a reflective note by Dean James of the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning, highlighting various aspects of Tata’s impactful life. Cornell expressed its gratitude for his immense contributions to the institution and the world.

James Meese Yin, Dean of Cornell’s College of Architecture, Art, and Planning, said, "When Ratan Tata graduated from Cornell with a degree in Architecture, it was unimaginable that his visionary leadership, philanthropy, and commitment to humanity would have a global impact, advancing education and research across multiple sectors." Interim University President Michael I. Kotlikoff added, "Ratan Tata has left an extraordinary legacy in India, at Cornell, and across the globe."

Dean Yin noted that Tata served as a trustee of Cornell three times between 2006 and 2022. In 2013, he was named Cornell's Entrepreneur of the Year. He was also the university's largest international benefactor and a significant supporter of scholarships, research, and technological innovations aimed at reducing poverty and malnutrition in rural India.

According to the university's website, Tata Trusts’ $50 million contribution in 2008 led to the establishment of the Tata-Cornell Institute for Agriculture and Nutrition. This long-term research initiative also provided scholarships for Indian students. Additionally, Tata Consultancy Services invested $50 million in 2017 to construct the Tata Innovation Center at Cornell Tech’s Roosevelt Island campus in New York City.

Interim President Kotlikoff remarked, "Ratan Tata's generosity has improved education and healthcare for millions in India and beyond, enhancing Cornell’s global influence." He further added, "I am filled with gratitude for Ratan Tata’s contributions and hold deep respect for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering optimism. In addition to Cornell University, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, shared his condolences on social media platform X, saying, "During my last meeting with Ratan Tata, we discussed the progress of Waymo. His vision was truly inspiring. He leaves behind an extraordinary business and philanthropic legacy. He played a pivotal role in guiding and shaping modern business leadership in India."

US-India Business Council President Atul Keshap and Indiaspora founder M.R. Rangaswami also expressed their sorrow over Tata’s passing.

Mumbai, Maharashtra: Industrialist Ratan Tata, former chairman of the Tata Group, was conferred with the prestigious KIIS Humanitarian Award-2021 on Monday. The ceremony, held at Prof. Achyut Samant's private residence, recognized Mr. Tata's commitment to social development and his exemplary leadership in the corporate world.

Prof. Samant, founder of Keet-Kiss-Keems and Lok Sabha MP from Kandhamal, presented the award to Mr. Tata. The ceremony included prominent guests like Tata Group Chairman N. Chandrasekaran and musician Ricky Cage.

While the award was announced in 2021, it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking at the event, Prof. Samant expressed his honor at presenting the award to Mr. Tata, stating that the industrialist's social work and leadership had been an inspiration since his childhood. He further mentioned his longstanding respect for Mr. Tata, dating back to when his own father worked for the Tata Company.

Established by Dr. Samant in 2008, the KIIS Humanitarian Award recognizes individuals and organizations that champion humanitarian efforts globally.

Chennai, Oct 10 (IANS) Billionaire Mukesh Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Industries Ltd, has reclaimed the top spot as the richest Indian after a year, as per the '360 One Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2023'.

Ambani was ranked at the top with a wealth of Rs 808,800 crore with 2 per cent appreciation over the previous year.

Industrialist Gautam Adani, despite a 57 per cent erosion in wealth, was ranked second in the list with a wealth of Rs 474,800 crore.

Last year, Adani was ahead of Ambani by Rs 3 lakh crore and in 2023, the latter is ahead of the former by Rs 3.3 lakh crore.

The top two industrialists are followed by vaccine maker Cyrus S. Poonawalla (Rs 278,500 crore), HCL Group’s Shiv Nadar (Rs 228,900 crore), Hinduja Group’s Gopichand Hinduja (Rs 176,500 crore) and Sun Pharmaceuticals’ Dilip Shanghvi (Rs 164,300 crore).

According to the report, the Rs 1,000 crore rich individuals' club went up by 216 to 1,319.

The cumulative wealth of India’s rich list stood at Rs 109 lakh crore, more than the combined gross domestic product (GDP) of Singapore, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

The youngest rich Indian title went to 20-year-old Kaivalya Vohra, the Founder of Zepto.

On the other hand, 94 year old Mahendra Ratilal Mehta, Founder, Precision Wires India, made his maiden entry into the rich list in 2023.

According to the list, 84 startup founders with a cumulative wealth of Rs 423,600 crore with an average age of 41 years figure in the 2023 rankings.

Radha Vembu (50) of Zoho became the richest self-made woman in the 2023 list, overtaking Falguni Nayar.

Tamil Nadu’s hosiery town Tiruppur debuted in the top 20 cities producing the most number of entrants with 328 individuals.

As regards the number of followers on the social media platform X, Tata Group’s Ratan Tata has the largest number of followers at 12.6 million and is followed by Mahindra & Mahindra Group’s Anand Mahindra with 10.8 million followers.
