SURAT: This year's Ganesh Utsav, a revered festival celebrated across the country, concluded on a grand scale in Surat as residents came together to immerse their beloved idols of Lord Ganesha.

In a bid to facilitate a swift and eco-friendly immersion process, the Surat Municipal Corporation had set up 20 artificial ponds throughout the city. These ponds were dedicated to the immersion of statues that measured up to five feet in height. A significant number of smaller statues were also observed this year, aiding in the faster completion of the immersion rituals.

Locals showcased their deep-rooted devotion and joy by bringing the revered idols to the artificial ponds using various means - from bikes and cars to carrying them on their heads. Following traditional puja ceremonies, the statues were immersed, with all 20 designated ponds completing the immersion process by nightfall.

However, the immersion journey extended into the early hours of Friday at Hazira, where idols from various parts of the city continued to be immersed until 9 am. Notably, around 80,000 idols found their resting place in Dumas, Hazira, and the aforementioned artificial ponds. The larger statues, which warranted immersion in the sea at Dumas and Hazira, presented a more time-consuming challenge. The weight and size of these grand idols necessitated the use of cranes, resulting in the immersion process extending until around 3 am.

A commendable effort was observed by the city police, who ensured a peaceful atmosphere for the immersion. Their meticulous planning prevented the accumulation of a large number of idols en route, a scenario that often led to long queues in previous years. This strategic decision to channel the idols towards Hazira was met with appreciation from the devotees, many of whom bid an emotional farewell to their beloved deity, praising the police for their dedication and support throughout the festival.

SURAT – The fervor of Ganesh immersion was palpable throughout Surat today, with public groups opting to immerse Lord Ganesha's idols in the city's artificial ponds and seas managed by the Municipal Corporation. A noteworthy trend has been emerging in recent years: more and more residential societies in Surat are choosing to host both the establishment and immersion ceremonies within their own premises. This year was no exception.

In many residential societies across Surat, the time-honored tradition of Bappa's Visarjan Yatra was celebrated with jubilance, accompanied by drums, musical instruments, and religious flags. Residents joyfully participated, immersing the idol of Bappa right within their society's grounds.

Over 75,000 idols of varying sizes graced Surat this year. A sustained awareness campaign advocating for eco-friendly clay idols has borne fruit; a majority of residential societies now prefer idols that are under five feet in height and made entirely of clay. Historically, devotees would flock to the city's ghats or artificial lakes for the immersion ceremony. However, the growing environmental consciousness has inspired many to host and culminate the festivities in their own societies. This not only promotes sustainability but also eases the administrative burden, with fewer immersion sites to oversee.

Today's ceremonies began with morning worship of Lord Ganesha in various societies. Residents then orchestrated farewell processions for the deity, replete with festive celebrations, right within their community spaces. Immersions took various forms: some opted for large pans, others for makeshift ponds or tubs. In a nod to sustainability, many then repurposed the clay, using it to nourish gardens and bloom flowers, symbolizing a cycle of reverence and renewal.

SURAT – This morning witnessed the peaceful commencement of the Ganesh Visarjan Yatra in Surat. Devotees, filled with fervor, joined the procession, moving rhythmically to the beat of drums. The local police, anticipating large crowds, put extensive security measures in place to prevent any mishaps.

BJP state president C.R. Patil, Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi, and Mayor Dakshesh Mavani were seen actively monitoring the immersion process and the yatra's progress. Their presence was felt across various parts of the procession route, as they gathered firsthand information about the precautions taken by the police.

During his tour, Minister Harsh Sanghvi interacted with the people, extending his well wishes and ensuring the safety measures were effectively implemented. He highlighted that technological advancements, such as 3D mapping, GPS, and drone cameras, previously used during the Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra, were also employed for the Ganesh Visarjan Yatra. Special attention was given to sensitive areas to prevent traffic congestions and other potential disturbances.

Minister Sanghvi proudly stated that the Ganesh Visarjan Yatra was unfolding peacefully across the entire state. He mentioned the communal harmony and amicable atmosphere in which residents celebrated the ten-day Ganesh Utsav and the ongoing Disruption Yatra.

Echoing similar sentiments, C.R. Patil expressed his wishes for all devotees to continue the yatra in a harmonious manner. He hoped that Lord Ganesha's blessings would be bestowed upon the state and the entire nation.

SURAT – This year, the revered Ganesh Utsav in Surat took a different course. Traditionally, the grand immersion of the Ganesh idol, a key event, continued till the morning following Anant Chaudas. But, spurred by increased awareness and announcements from the local police, the process commenced even before dawn on Anand Chaudas itself.

Surat's vibrant populace has always celebrated Ganesh Utsav with immense enthusiasm. In past years, the Ganesh Visarjan Yatra, a procession leading to the immersion of Lord Ganesh's idol, could be seen winding through the city's streets for hours. Immersion rituals were primarily held at the Tapi river, drawing vast crowds eager to witness the spectacle.

However, changes emerged following a ban on immersions in the Tapi river. The Surat Municipal Corporation established artificial lakes, and coastal areas like Dumas, Magdalla, and Hazira became new immersion sites for the statues, some reaching a towering nine feet in height.

A noteworthy shift occurred this year. Several Ganesh Mandals initiated the immersion yatra for large idols in the early hours, before most of Surat's residents had even awoken on the morning of Anand Chaudas. Devotees from various parts of Surat, including Nanpura, Syedpura, and Chowta Bazaar, began their worship routines early. By around 4:45 am, grand idols set forth from landmarks like Makkai Bridge and Adajan Gujarat Gas Circle, heading towards Hazira. Before the official commencement of the immersion process at the artificial lakes, many organizers completed the ritual and headed home.

This year's adaptation in immersion timing marks a significant shift from the usual custom. By starting the process on the eve of Anand Chaudash itself, there's an evident reduction in daytime congestion, making it a more streamlined affair for everyone involved.

SURAT : To ensure a peaceful atmosphere for the Ganesh Visarjan (immersion) on Anant Chaudash, extensive security arrangements have been put into action under the direction of Surat City Police Commissioner, Ajay Tomar.

A robust deployment of security personnel has been organized, including forces from 12 SRP, 1 RAF, two Joint Commissioners of Surat City, and 1 BSF. Alongside them, an Additional CP Crime and a comprehensive team comprising 16 SP, 35 ACP, 106 P.I., 205 P.S.I., 4206 police personnel, and 5533 home guards will ensure safety during the yatra. In total, around 15,000 officers and police personnel will be monitoring the procession.

Harnessing the power of technology, the police will utilize body-worn cameras, drones, reflective jackets, and other electronic devices. Drone cameras and CCTV systems will monitor critical areas, especially Dhaba Points, ensuring comprehensive surveillance. Policemen will be positioned strategically at each of these points.

Police Commissioner Ajay Tomar provided insights into the meticulous arrangements, which include accelerated procession routes for Ganesh organizers and over 20 artificial lakes constructed specifically for the immersion of the idols. Activities such as playing DJs have been restricted during the procession to maintain decorum.

As devotees prepare to bid an emotional farewell to Lord Ganesha after nine days of worship, police presence has been reinforced on all immersion routes, artificial ponds, and popular immersion sites like Hazira and Dumas beaches. The police department has issued a detailed notification highlighting different routes to regulate traffic during the immersion.

With approximately 80,000 idols installed across the city, a specialized GPS system has been implemented for larger statues. This ensures they follow designated immersion paths and allows the police to monitor their movement. Authorities are also taking measures to curtail potential crimes, such as extortion or snatching incidents, during the yatra. In addition, the Surat City Police conducted a march past across all immersion routes as a pre-emptive security measure.

SURAT: In what is considered the third largest Ganeshotsav celebration, Surat is preparing to host lakhs of devotees for the Ganesh immersion. With the event gaining momentum every year, the adoption of clay idols continues, signaling a strong inclination towards environmental responsibility.

Police Commissioner Ajay Tomar, recognized for maintaining law and order even during the pandemic, emphasized that embracing technology has been a significant boon for public services, especially during large-scale celebrations.

Environmental concerns are increasingly becoming a focal point for the Surat administration. Recent measures to deter idol immersion in rivers have made a positive impact, preserving the health of rivers, canals, and natural lakes. To facilitate the immersion process, the administration establishes artificial ponds each year, witnessing an enthusiastic response from devotees.

The immersion procession, a pivotal part of the festival, is anticipated to attract over 15 lakh participants. "Managing such massive gatherings does pose a challenge in terms of law and order," states a representative. However, with Surat police exceeding expectations in the last three years, enhanced cooperation from citizens has also been evident.

This year, technology takes center stage in maintaining the sanctity and order of the event. The police have integrated the use of CCTV cameras, drones, body-worn cameras, breath analyzers, modified bikes, and reflector jackets into their operations. Prioritizing the comfort and safety of participants, especially given the religious significance of the festival, the Surat Police have enlisted the support of 3000 'Friends of Police' to maintain peace across colonies.

To ensure further comfort for all participants, especially senior citizens, the decision has been taken to forgo the use of DJs during the festival. Additionally, efforts are being made to provide efficient immersion facilities, coordinate discussions between police and the public, and strategize immersion routes, especially considering ongoing metro construction, to minimize traffic disruptions.

These initiatives reflect a mutual understanding and commitment from both the administration and the public to celebrate Ganeshotsav harmoniously, responsibly, and joyfully.
