Mumbai, July 30 (Web Varta): Bollywood action icon Sunny Deol is reportedly teaming up for the first time with Excel Entertainment for a big-budget action thriller. Riding high on the back-to-back success of Gadar 2 and Jaat, Deol has re-established himself as one of the most bankable stars in Hindi cinema.

In 2025, the actor’s lineup already includes major projects such as Border 2, Lahore 1947, and Ramayana: Part One. Now, according to industry sources, Sunny Deol is set to headline a yet-untitled high-concept action film under Excel Entertainment, co-founded by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.

A source close to the development shared, “This will mark Sunny Deol’s first collaboration with Excel. Discussions had been ongoing for quite some time, and both parties are thrilled to finally join forces for a massive action-packed project. Sunny has loved the script and is excited to work with Farhan and Ritesh.”

The film will also mark the directorial debut of Balaji, who has previously served as assistant and associate director on several Tamil blockbusters. The project is slated to go on floors in December 2025, with pre-production efforts already underway to deliver a visually grand cinematic experience.

“This will be a powerful film that presents Sunny Deol in the action-packed avatar that fans have always admired,” the source added. “Excel Entertainment is leaving no stone unturned to make this first collaboration truly special. The film will have gripping drama and intense sequences designed for a big-screen spectacle.”

Casting for other pivotal roles is currently in progress, and the title along with the first look is expected to be officially unveiled soon.

New Delhi, April 21 – Actor Sunny Deol has expressed heartfelt thanks to audiences for the overwhelming love his latest film Jaat has received, while confidently stating that its sequel, Jaat 2, will surpass the original in quality and impact.

The film, which released in theatres on April 10, has grossed over ₹89 crore at the global box office, marking a strong performance. Following its success, the producers recently announced plans for a sequel.

As per agency report, Deol took to Instagram to share a video of himself walking through a serene valley. In the video, he thanked fans for the love shown to Jaat and assured them that Jaat 2 would be even better. He also revealed that he will soon resume shooting for his upcoming war drama Border 2.

Accompanying the video, Deol wrote in the caption that he felt blessed by the audience's enthusiasm and their continued sharing of reactions to Jaat. He credited the film's success entirely to the fans’ support.

Directed by Gopichand Malineni, Jaat features Sunny Deol alongside Randeep Hooda, Regina Cassandra, Saiyami Kher, Jagapathi Babu, Ramya Krishnan, and Vineet Kumar Singh. The film is jointly produced by Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory.

Sunny Deol's next major project, Border 2, is the sequel to his iconic 1997 film Border. The film also stars Diljit Dosanjh, Varun Dhawan, and Ahaan Shetty, and is slated for release on January 23, 2026.

New Delhi, February 18 – Bollywood actor Sunny Deol has officially commenced shooting for "Border 2" in Jhansi, marking the long-awaited sequel to J.P. Dutta’s 1997 war epic "Border".

Joining Deol on set was Varun Dhawan, one of the lead actors in the upcoming film. The announcement was made by production banner T-Series, which confirmed the start of filming through an official post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Directed by Anurag Singh, the film also features Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty in pivotal roles. According to the makers, "Border 2" will offer a powerful blend of action, drama, and emotional depth, promising an intense cinematic experience.

The movie is set for a theatrical release on January 23, 2026.

The original "Border", released in June 1997, was a box office success, depicting a significant chapter of the 1971 Indo-Pak war. The film starred an ensemble cast including Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Sudesh Berry, Puneet Issar, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Tabu, Raakhee, Pooja Bhatt, and Sharbani Mukherjee. With "Border 2," the franchise aims to recreate the heroic spirit and patriotic fervor of its predecessor while bringing a fresh narrative to the screen.

Mumbai, Aug 23 (IANS) Bollywood star Sunny Deol got emotional while thanking his fans for the roaring response to his latest film ‘Gadar 2’, which has now entered the  Rs 400 crore club. 

Sunny took to Instagram, where he shared a video sitting inside a chartered plane. 

In the video, Sunny, who played the role of Tara Singh in the film said: “First and foremost thank you all that you liked the film so much.  I never imagined you guys would like Gadar 2 so much.. We have crossed 400 crores because of you all and we will go ahead.” 

He credited the film’s success to his fans.

Sunny added: “This all happened because of you all. You liked the film, Tara Singh and Sakeena. Thank you.”

‘Gadar 2’ is set in 1971, and Tara Singh returns to Lahore, Pakistan in the midst of an anti-India campaign to bring back his son Charanjeet. The film is  currently riding high on success and has broken records at the box-office. Directed by Anil Sharma, it released on August 11. The film also stars Utkarsh Sharma and Ameesha Patel. 

Since being released, ‘Gadar 2’  has surpassed the collections of ‘Dangal’-starring Aamir Khan on the second Monday.

Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh on Twitter shared that the film is all set to challenge ‘Baahubali 2’ and ‘Pathaan’.

Chennai, Aug 21 (IANS) The Central government-owned mortgage lender, Bank of Baroda (BOB) laden with Rs.34,832.16 crore of gross non performing loans as on June 30, has decided to withdraw its decision to auction actor Sunny Deol’s Mumbai property for non payment of its loan about Rs 56 crore and interest on that.

The decision comes a day after Bank of Baroda advertised about e-auctioning of the actor’s property.

The bank in a newspaper advertisement on Monday said that "the sale notice I respect of Mr. Ajay Sing Deol alias Mr. Sunny Deol stands withdrawn due to Technical Reasons” and listed the description of the property.

On Sunday in the newspaper advertisement, that has been widely circulated in the social media, BOB said the borrower, Sunny Deol, owed the bank about Rs 55.99 crore plus interest and cost from December 26, 2022 onwards less recovery upto date.

Whether the bank misspelt the actor’s name as 'Ajay Sing Deol' instead of 'Ajay Singh Deol' is yet to be ascertained.

According to the bank, the property that is put on e-auction measures 599.44 sq. metres and a structure known as Sunny Villa located in Mumbai’s Juhu locality.

Sunny Deol is described as the borrower/guarantor and the other guarantors are Dharmendra Singh Deol and Sunny Sounds Pvt Ltd.

The bank is auctioning the property under the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act, 2022.

The reserve price is about Rs 51.43 crore and the earnest money deposit is fixed as about Rs 5.14 crore.

According to BOB, the property can be inspected between 11 a.m and 1 p.m. on September 14 and the status of the possession is symbolic.

The bank also said the borrowers/guarantors can redeem the securities by paying the outstanding dues/costs/charges and expenses at any time before the sale is conducted.

The auction notice was issued by BOB’s Zonal Stressed Asset Recovery Branch, Ballard Estate, Mumbai.

Sunny Deol was not available on phone when IANS tried to get his reaction to the BOB e-auction advertisement on Sunday.

New Delhi, Aug 17 (IANS) August 16 may have been a working day, but Rajinikanth's  'Jailer' and Sunny Deol's 'Gadar 2' not only did well, but also left the Akshay Kumar-starrer 'OMG 2' and Chiranjeevi's 'Bholaa Shankar' way behind.

At the end of Day 6, 'Gadar 2' was sitting on a worldwide collection of Rs 338.50 crore (gross receipts across India, Rs 308.50 crore, which includes the 18 per cent GST component, plus Rs 30 crore overseas).

Interestingly, Tara Singh's one-man war against Pakistan seems to have touched a chord in Chennai, for the southern metropolis saw a 73.75 per cent occupancy in theatres for 'Gadar 2'. Pakistan-bashing, clearly, works as much in the south as it does in the north, that too on a working Wednesday.

'Jailer', being a Tamil film, doesn't have as big a footprint as 'Gadar 2', yet with Thalaiva Rajinikanth headlining it, by its seventh day, it had amassed Rs 420 crore (all-India gross receipts, Rs 264.70 crore, plus Rs 155.30 crore overseas).

Of course, the film's domestic collections have come mainly from the four southern states, led by Tamil Nadu (Rs 121.60 crore), followed by Andhra Pradesh / Telangana (Rs 53.50 crore), Karnataka (Rs 44.40 crore) and Kerala (Rs 35.90 crore).

But Rajini's global fan following has ensured an overseas collection more than five times higher than that of 'Gadar 2', enabling it to be India's No. 1 movie today.

'OMG 2', in contrast, has just crossed the Rs 100-crore mark (Rs 108.80 crore, including all-India gross receipts of Rs 93.80 and an overseas collection of Rs 15 crore), even as 'Bholaa Shankar' is languishing at Rs 39 crore (all-India gross receipts, Rs 33.40 crore, plus Rs 5.60 crore earned overseas).

'Jailer' was massively hyped across South India, with offices in Tamil Nadu even giving a day off to their employees to watch the film on August 10 upon its release. Rajinikanth's persona in the movie is that of an old jailer hunting down a notorious gang lord and mercilessly eliminating his gang members.

Regarding the magic of 'Jailer' at the box office, trade expert Ramesh Bala said: "Rajinikanth is a Superstar. The 'Superstar' tag alone is enough to garner it all the attention it needs. And then, he also benefits from worldwide recognition."

Continuing his analysis, Bala said: "Apart from Rajinikanth, the movie has good content, it is different, and has other famous faces from the South, notably Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and Ramya Krishnan. But when you mention Rajinikanth, words such as swag, cool, attitude come to mind, and his 50-year-plus career and humble nature also help."

Bala expects the lifetime collection of 'Jailer' to touch Rs 600 crore, which means it will surpass last year's 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' and 'Vikram', and stand just behind Rajini's '2.0'.

'Gadar 2' is not expected to cross Rs 450-500 crore, but its makers, having produced the film reportedly for Rs 75 crore, are already laughing all the way to the bank.

Jaipur, Aug 16 (IANS) It's an unusual scene outside Jaipur cinema houses as people can be seen queuing up on tractors and trucks to watch 'Gadar 2', starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel.

Meanwhile, inside cinema halls, as soon as song 'Main nikla o gaddi le ke'.... is played, people run towards screen and start shaking their legs. This is the scene in almost all cinema halls where people dance fiercely and clap on each and every scene and songs of 'Gadar-2' movie.

Sanjeev Sharma, General Manager Marketing, INOX said: "There is a good atmosphere in the theaters right now. The most important thing is that those who had stayed away from the theaters post covid, have come back happily once again. You go to any cinema hall, you will see people from all strata of  society.

"Earlier these people had lost their fascination for cinema. The shows are housefull since last five days. Apart from this, shows of OMG 2 and Rocky Rani are also housefull in advance. Film distributor Raj Bansal says that this is the best time for entertainment industry as record earnings have been made with the release of films like 'Gadar 2', 'OMG2'."

In Jaipur, 'Gadar 2' has earned Rs 12 crore while 'OMG 2' has earned Rs 2.5 crore so far, he added.

New Delhi, August 3 (IANS) After an exciting teaser, 'Gadar 2' has released its revamped version of the iconic dance number 'Main Nikla Gaddi Leke', mixing in folk, electronic, a strong bass which is sung by with great passion by Udit Narayan and his son Aditya Narayan along with music director Mithoon.

The original track from 22 years ago is an all time classic, so releasing a new version carries its own risks. But this is no longer the case as 'Gadar 2' very much honours the original track, with Udit Narayan once again coming in with his great voice and showing no signs of ageing.

But this time, much like how the father-son duo of Tara Singh (Sunny Deol) and his son Charanjeet Singh (Utkarsh Sharma) dance to the song, Udit Narayan and Aditya Narayan do an amazing collaboration perfectly complementing each other's voices, with great choreography wrapping up nostalgia with a new flavour.

If the original was about love, this time the song is now about the strong bond of a family as Tara Singh and Charanjeet dance to the song along with Tara's wife and Charanjeet's mother Sakina Ali Singh (Ameesha Patel), displaying their strong love and massive energy.

The revamped version has also received great reception, garnering over two million views on YouTube within just three hours of releasing, with great praise being directed at Sunny Deol's dancing and Udit Narayan's voice, both of whom do not reflect their age in their performance.

The addition of Aditya and Mithoon was also praised as both the singers blended their own voices perfectly with Udit Narayan, and created an entirely new composition out of the exact same song.

'Main Nikla Gaddi Leke' from 'Gadar 2' is indeed the same as the original, but it is also very much different as it brings in a more modern production with a far more open mix, and new vocal dynamics.

The new version has only hyped up audiences more for 'Gadar 2' and the fight that awaits Tara Singh and his family, as the Anil Sharma directorial hits theatres on August 11, 2023.

Mumbai, July 27 (IANS) Bollywood star and BJP MP from Punjab’s Gurdaspur Sunny Deol blamed "political games" for the "hatred" between India and Pakistan.

 The actor made the remark during grand trailer launch of ‘Gadar 2’ on Kargil Diwas. Filmmaker Anil Sharma, stars Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma were also present on the occasion. 

Sunny said, "Kuch le jane ya lene-dene ki baat nahi hoti hai. Baat hoti hai insaniyat ki. Jhagde nahi hone chahiye.” “Dono taraf utna hi pyar hai, yeh siyasi khel hota hai jo sab nafratein paida karta hai. Aur woh hi aap dekhenge iss film mein bhi. Janta nahi koi chahti ki ek dusre ke sath hum jhagda kare. Aakhir hai toh sab iss hi mitti se.”

‘Gadar 2’ is the sequel of Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’, which was released in 2001. The Indian Hindi-language romantic period action drama film directed by Anil Sharma and set during the Partition of India in 1947.

Loosely based on the life of Boota Singh, the film stars Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, Amrish Puri and Lillete Dubey. In 2001, Ameesha bagged Sakeena's role out of 500 girls who auditioned for the role.

Set in 1971, ‘Gadar 2’ will feature Tara Singh returning to Lahore, Pakistan in the midst of an anti-India “Crush India” campaign, to bring back his son Charanjeet.

Mumbai, July 27 (IANS) Actress Ameesha Patel, who had accused filmmaker Anil Sharma of non-payment of dues during 'Gadar 2', claimed that she shared a father-daughter relationship with him.

Ameesha is all set to reprise the role of Sakeena in ‘Gadar 2’, where Sunny Deol will once again play Tara Singh.

On Wednesday, the cast of ‘Gadar 2’ launched the trailer of the much-awaited film.

Ameesha shared her thoughts about the "bitter-sweet" relationship with filmmaker Anil Sharma.

Dressed in her character, Ameesha took the mic and spoke about her fighting and her bond with Anil as she said that they block each other on social media. “We fight, we block each other on WhatsApp, social media. But we are back. That’s our relationship. That’s what we share," Ameesha said, when asked about the bond she shared with Anil.

Ameesha had accused Anil Sharma of not providing proper remuneration to make-up artists, technicians, and costume designers connected with 'Gadar 2'.

Earlier, the actress had tweeted, "Another concern of fans has been about certain incidents regarding Anil Sharma Productions to have taken place in regards to the final schedule of Gadar 2 that took place end May in Chandigarh".

She continued in her tweets. "There were certain queries that many technicians like makeup artists, costume designers and others etc. did not receive their rightful remuneration and dues from Anil Sharma Productions!! Yes, they did not!! But @ZeeStudios_ stepped in and made sure all dues were settled as they are a very professional company". "Yes from accommodation, to transport to Chandigarh airport on the final day to food bills were left unpaid and cars were not provided to certain cast and crew members leaving them stranded! But yet again @zeestudios stepped in and corrected these issues caused by Anil Sharma Productions", she added.

Mumbai, July 21 (IANS) The makers of 'Gadar 2' unveiled a new gritty motion poster of the upcoming film, where Sunny Deol's character Tara is seen doing everything to save his onscreen son Jeete, played by Utakarsh Sharma .

The newly-launched motion poster begins with "A father's love knows no boundaries” note written. It then shows Sunny and Utkarsh's character running at the border while bullets  are being fired at them. 

A glimpse of the 65-year-old in an angry state can also be seen while bullets are being fired at the father-son duo. The motion poster ends with the iconic dialogue "Hindustan Zindabad" from the 2001 film 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha' mouthed by Sunny can be heard. 

Sunny shared the motion poster on his Instagram, which is originally put by Zee Studios on the photo-sharing website. 

The caption read: “Apne desh aur parivaar ki raksha ke liye, har chunauti ka samna karne ke liye taiyaar hai Tara Singh!  #Gadar2 aa rahi hai bade parde par lagane iss Independence Day! Cinemas mein 11th August se .”

'Gadar 2' is the sequel of 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’, which was released in 2001. The romantic period action drama film is directed by Anil Sharma and set during the Partition of India in 1947. Loosely based on the life of Boota Singh, the film starred Sunny Deol and Amisha Patel in lead roles alongside Amrish Puri and Lillete Dubey.

New Delhi, July 14 (IANS) Actor Sunny Deol who is all geared up for the release of 'Gadar 2', has opened up on the emotions that he felt while filming the most iconic 'handpump' scene in the first instalment of the movie.

Sunny along with his co-star Ameesha Patel will be seen promoting their upcoming sequel to 2001 romantic period action drama 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha', on the comedy show 'The Kapil Sharma Show'.

One of Bollywood's most iconic scenes is the 'handpump scene' in the first edition of 'Gadar' where Sunny uproots a hand pump in anger during a face-off with Amrish Puri. 

Shedding some light on the emotions that he felt while bringing this scene to life, Sunny shared, "It's not about a person uprooting a hand pump; it's about an emotional journey where one finds strength in the love and support of his family."

"When a person is emotionally trapped, surrounded by his family on all sides, he would take such a step to save his children and wife from a difficult situation. In those moments, the divine essence of Waheguru dwells within us, guiding our actions. And that's how the scene came into the picture and became an audience-adored scene of all time," the senior actor said.
