At the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, Rohit reached his century in just 63 balls, setting the record for fastest century by an India player at a Men’s Cricket World Cup, breaking a 40-year record set by the legendary Kapil Dev 40 years ago.

Rohit’s 131 off 84 balls, also his 31st century in the format, saw him become the player with the most centuries in ODI World Cup history, breaking Sachin Tendulkar's long-standing world record of six tons.

“My focus for the chase was purely on Ishan Kishan. I thought that he played decently, was not the best but tried to hold his own, while he let the captain do all the heavy lifting on the other end. Rohit Sharma has made seven centuries in only nineteen games in all editions of the World Cup – what a player!”

“He made those sixes look too easy. It is unfortunate that we don’t give him enough credit – Rohit Sharma is an ODI beast. Whenever he puts up a monstrous performance, the match is always one-sided,” said Chopra on JioCinema’s daily sports show ‘#AAKASHVANI’.

Apart from Rohit, fast-bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was the standout bowler for India on a flat pitch, being effective in both power-play and death overs to end with figures of 4-39 in 10 overs, also his best figures in the Men’s Cricket World Cup.

“As we know, out of all the pitches Kotla’s is the flattest but then comes in Boom Boom Bumrah! First, he got the wicket of Ibrahim Zadran with the new ball. Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai had a decent partnership which was starting to look dangerous, and it almost looked like they would reach the 300 mark.”

“I also want to point out that Bumrah got four wickets on a road-like pitch and restricted Afghanistan’s total to 270 – there is not one better than him across formats. Jasprit Bumrah is the best bowler in the world,” added Chopra.

With four points from winning their first two matches, India will next face arch-rivals Pakistan in a highly-anticipated World Cup clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday.

In the last few years, the Indian Men’s Cricket Team has suffered a lot at the No.4 position, but with Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul back in the team, the shoes are filled now.

In his latest episode of Aakashvani on Jio Cinema, Chopra stated that Virat’s numbers at the No.3 position are brilliant. “There are two parameters to judge this. First, Virat Kohli’s success at No. 4 is good, but at No. 3 it’s exceptional. A significant sample size reinforces this and his peak equals India’s best.

"Hopes rest on his tournament performance – if he does well, India benefits; otherwise, a middle-order gap looms. Kohli’s effectiveness shines at No. 3, tackling new balls and closing games. Retaining this is vital," he added.

Earlier, former Indian cricketer and head coach Ravid Shastri had said that Kohli should bat at No.4 in the absence of Iyer and Surakumar Yadav’s poor form.

Averaging 60.21 runs in 210 innings when batting at No. 3, Kohli has amassed 10,777 runs in ODIs. He has an equally remarkable record, scoring 1767 runs from 39 innings at an average of 55.22 batting at No.4.

With chances given to many batters in the middle-order conundrum, none of them established themselves in the position. However, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson showed some resilience but not enough to be promised.

Ishan Kishan played some brilliant innings opening for the team but with Rohit Sharma and Shubhman Gill back, he will be seen batting in the middle. Eyes will also be on Suryakumar Yadav’s performance in the Asia Cup, he hasn’t been up to his capabilities in ODI cricket.

Aakash also talked about the No.5 position and stated, “ I am assuming without Rahul, Sanju Samson can enter the team. Given a No. 5 batter is needed, selection should be based on that specific condition. Samson, a middle-order batsman and keeper, should be the backup."

India will face their arch-rival Pakistan in the much-anticipated encounter on September 2.

The 21-year-old was in red-hot form during the recent IPL, and is also a proven performer in the longer formats of the game.

During a preview show, JioCinema expert, Aakash Chopra said: “The good thing about Yashasvi Jaiswal's selection is that it's not just on the back of IPL runs. Yes, he was absolutely phenomenal and scintillating in this edition of the IPL, but then he scored a mountain of runs—truckloads of runs—in First Class cricket playing for Mumbai and West Zone.”

The former India opener added: “In fact, wherever he has played, whichever team he has represented so far, he has scored a lot of runs, and therefore, just the understanding of playing the day format, understanding the pulse of what is required of a batsman in the day format, will hold him in good stead. It won't be easy, and it won't be a cake walk, for a simple reason that there is a gulf between First Class cricket and Test cricket when we talk about the standards. But I think Yashasvi Jaiswal, over a period of time, will really do well.”

Another expert Abhinav Mukund, said: “Yashasvi is one of the more impressive young players coming out of this country, and I am excited to see how he goes in Test cricket. I feel he will respond well. Considering the conditions with the Dukes ball and the fact that there will be a bit of grass, I think Jaiswal will have a challenge, but I think he has the technique, skill set, and most importantly, the mind-set to play Test cricket.”
