According to a joint report by Flipkart and Bain & Company, these platforms accounted for over two-thirds of all e-grocery orders and nearly 10 percent of total e-retail spending in 2024.

As per agency report, the study highlights that India’s quick commerce sector has outpaced global trends and is projected to grow at an annual rate exceeding 40 percent by 2030. This growth is expected to be driven by expansion across various product categories, geographic regions, and customer segments.

The report notes that the emergence of quick commerce has been one of the most defining shifts in India’s e-retail sector over the past two years. While the segment initially focused on grocery deliveries, it has now diversified significantly. Around 15 to 20 percent of its gross merchandise value (GMV) currently comes from categories such as general merchandise, mobile phones, electronics, and apparel.

High population density and easy access to low-cost "dark stores" – retail outlets that cater exclusively to online orders – have contributed to the rapid rise of these platforms in India. Quick commerce companies have also attracted substantial interest from various players, enriching their value proposition to consumers.

While the majority of GMV continues to come from India’s top six metropolitan cities, the sector is expanding into smaller towns, further boosting growth. However, the report emphasizes the importance of adapting business models for these emerging markets, managing rising competition, and optimizing supply chains to ensure sustained profitability.

The Flipkart-Bain report on India’s online shopping trends in 2025 also notes that India has become one of the world’s largest retail markets. In 2024, the country emerged as the third-largest retail market globally. The Indian e-retail sector reached a GMV of approximately $60 billion, making it the second-largest market globally in terms of online shopping volume.

Although a slowdown in private consumption reduced the sector’s growth rate from a historic high of 20 percent to 10–12 percent in 2024, the outlook for 2025 appears optimistic, especially with expected momentum during the festive season.

Looking ahead, the e-retail segment is projected to grow at over 18 percent annually, potentially reaching a GMV of $170–190 billion over the next six years.

The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) last month issued a demand notice to Zomato and its rival Swiggy, asking them to pay pending dues of over Rs 400 crore and Rs 350 crore, respectively.

The show-cause notice to Zomato is for the period between October 29, 2019, and March 31, 2022, according to media reports.

The food delivery platform said that it "strongly believes that it is not liable to pay any tax since the delivery charge is collected by the company on behalf of the delivery partners".

In a regulatory filing, Zomato said that in view of the contractual terms and conditions mutually agreed upon, "the delivery partners have provided the delivery services to the customers and not the company".

"The company will be filing an appropriate response to the show cause notice (SCN)," Zomato added.

"At this stage, no order of any kind has been passed and as mentioned above, the company believes that it has a strong case on merit," said the company.

Last month, Zomato and Swiggy received GST notices on delivery charges.

As per Zomato and Swiggy, 'delivery charge' is nothing but the cost borne by the delivery partners who go to deliver food from door to door.

Swiggy recently increased the platform fee from Rs 2 to Rs 3 for food orders.

A Swiggy spokesperson had told IANS that "there has been no significant change on platform fee, which is applied by most service players and is a common practice across industries".

Zomato earlier increased its platform fee to Rs 3 per order from an initial Rs 2.

"As per our estimate consumption demand may be frontloaded by Rs 55,000 crore. With the bank note remaining a legal tender, unlike demonetisation, consumption could see a boost. Though, RBI asked customers to deposit or exchange the Rs 2,000 notes, but it is expected that high-value amounts could move to high-value spends such as gold/jewellery, high-end consumer durables like AC, mobile phones etc, and real estate," the report said.

Cash transactions have sharply risen at petrol pumps and cash-paying customers are using Rs 2,000 notes.

The All-India Petroleum Dealers Association (AIPDA) has said that the digital payments, which used to be 40 per cent of daily sales at pumps, have dropped to 10 per cent while cash sales have increased dramatically.

People have also started ordering items online with the cash-on-delivery option. It is reported that nearly 75 per cent users of online food delivery aggregator Zomato opting for cash-on-delivery have been paying with Rs 2,000 notes.

Ecommerce, food and online grocery segments are likely to witness an increase in customers opting for cash on delivery.

The report expects an increase in donations through Rs 2,000 notes in temples and other religious institutions and sundry purchases such as consumer durables, boutique furniture, etc.

Around Rs 55,000 crore could be withdrawn by public from Rs 92,000 crore saving bank deposits to be made cumulatively through Rs 2,000 notes. This should give consumption boost along with increasing the velocity of money.

"Considering the MPC of this Rs 55,000 crore at 0.7, we believe that the Private Final Consumption Expenditure (PFCE) might increase by Rs 1.83 lakh crore through the multiplier effect. Considering that ratio of PFCE to GDP at constant prices is around 58 per cent, we may expect Q1 FY24 GDP growth at 8.1 per cent with an upward bias due to the impact of this Rs 2,000 note withdrawal event. This reinforces our projection that FY24 GDP could be higher than 6.5 per cent, per the RBI estimate," the report said.

From pulses to grains, oils, spices and seasonings to packaged products, beverages, and personal care items, Pay Store Pe has it all. Customers can choose from a wide range of options in each category, handpicked to ensure the best quality at the lowest prices.

“My mission and vision for Pay Store Pe are to become a leading player in the grocery retail sector, on par with renowned brands like Blinkit, Zepto, and Bigbasket. We are committed to expanding our presence both nationally and internationally,” said Afzal Ali, Founder and CEO of Pay Store Pe.

Afzal Ali has an experience of over a decade in the industry and established Pay Store Pe to enhance customer convenience.

“Grocery shopping has evolved in the last few years, especially since the Covid pandemic. For many customers, online has become the default mode of grocery shopping, but many others continue to prefer offline grocery shopping. We are targeting both online and offline expansion, which will further enhance accessibility and provide customers with the flexibility to choose between online and offline shopping modes based on their preferences,” Afzal Ali said.

As part of its expansion strategy and to strengthen its offline presence, Pay Store Pe aims to establish a network of physical grocery stores in various locations across the country, covering all postal codes.

Online grocery retailing has grown at a fast rate in the last few years, but the overall segment still occupies a very small size of the overall market, offering tremendous potential for growth for Pay Store Pe. Coupled with its offline presence, Pay Store Pe is set to become the preferred grocery retailer for millions of customers.

Pay Store Pe is available on both web and app platforms, ensuring easy access for customers using different devices and operating systems. This approach underscores the company’s commitment to offering a seamless and convenient shopping experience. It offers a range of payment options, including debit and credit cards, cash/Sodexo coupons upon delivery, and more. Pay Store Pe guarantees on-time delivery and the highest quality products.

The app is specially designed to serve Tier 2 cities where online shopping isn’t a norm yet. The app’s promise of delivering groceries within 20-30 minutes makes it a convenient option for the audience as they slowly move away from the challenges of offline shopping. The highlight of Jaldi Delivery is that it gives its customers access to quality groceries at their convenience, 24/7, making it a go-to app at any point in time.

Jaldi Delivery has recently become the best option for people coming from urban households in Tier 2 cities who may not have access to a wide variety of grocery stores, including busy working professionals, working moms, students, and seniors who may have difficulty getting to the store or who may not have the time to shop for groceries. The app is designed to be user-friendly, allowing customers to quickly and easily search for the items they need and have them delivered right to their doorstep. It also provides additional services such as subscription plans and loyalty programs to help customers save money on their grocery shopping.

To reach a wider customer base, Jaldi Delivery is expanding its services into other Tier 2 cities apart from Goa. It is partnering with local grocery stores to provide customers with a wide range of products at the best possible prices. The company is also planning to invest in new technology such as delivery drones and improved delivery tracking systems to make the delivery process even more efficient and reliable. The app is committed to providing top-notch services to its customers, including secure payment options and a wide selection of products. The company is also planning on launching a customer loyalty program to reward customers for their loyalty and encourage repeat purchases.

Offline grocery shopping in tier 2 cities can be a hassle due to the limited availability of options in products, poor quality, crowded stores, inconvenient locations, limited payment options, and much more. To overcome all these challenges, a doorstep delivery app becomes the most convenient and reliable option. Therefore, with Jaldi Delivery, customers in Goa are now enjoying hassle-free grocery shopping with just a few clicks on their smartphones.

This unique concept is set to revolutionise shopping for fashion and lifestyle at large, with the digital style assistant recommending the right outfits and suggesting a complete look to the users.

Ahead of the 18th edition of the highly-anticipated End of Reason Sale (EORS), its biannual fashion event, Myntra is all set to cater to the outfit styling aspirations of shoppers like never before and taking fashion to the next level with this next-gen product discovery and purchasing feature.

"The launch of 'My Stylist' takes our commitment to democratising fashion using technology, a notch higher! Powered by machine learning and AI-based technology, this first-of-its-kind innovation at scale in the fashion space in India, is poised to further take the customers' shopping experience to the next level by recommending looks with an understanding of fashion," said Raghu Krishnananda, Chief Product and Technology Officer, Myntra.

"My Stylist" has been created to tackle the daunting task of putting together the perfect outfit.

As styling requires a deep understanding of a broad range of properties, including colour, shape, pattern and fabric, along with awareness of current fashion trends and an individual's style preferences, to be able to get that perfect outfit, My Stylist' fulfils these requirements of customers in a way that is scalable, automated, customisable and in real-time.

My Stylist' utilises AI to offer customers complete shoppable outfit recommendations based on four different factors -- uploaded images from their offline wardrobes, their purchase history on the app, browsing history on the app, and what's currently trending on the platform, thus giving instant access to styling options and enhancing their shopping experience, making it visual, fun and instantly gratifying.

The pioneering product has been developed in-house and will be unique to the platform, while also being a one-of-its-kind offering at this scale in the Indian e-commerce fashion ecosystem.

The feature throws recommendations from 4.5 lakh styles from the fashion and lifestyle categories currently, which includes all topwear, bottomwear, footwear and accessories.

Since the launch of the feature, My Stylist' has witnessed good adoption. It is currently the highest used feature on the floating action button or M-Explore' on the homepage of the app, with a high engagement rate and click-through rate (CTR) of over 65 per cent.

The company expects nearly 80 per cent of its customers to engage with recommendations from the My Stylist' feature on trial by the end of this year.

For customers who have shopped before on Myntra, My Stylist helps them find and shop for a complete look based on any apparel product they bought recently on the app, recently browsed products, or popular outfits on the platform based on which outfits are generating maximum engagement from users.

For new customers, the feature also enables them to upload images of any product from their offline wardrobe and get pairing ideas. New and existing users can also play around with the feature by taking a picture or uploading an image from their phone gallery of any offline product from their wardrobe and checking out pairing ideas to complete an outfit.

The feature lets users shop the entire look' at the click of a button.

Myntra's in-house artificial intelligence (AI) technology, machine learning (ML) models and computer vision algorithms, along with the expertise of subject matter experts in curation and styling, is used to power My Stylist's 'Fashion Object Detection', 'Image Search', and 'Outfit Recommendations' features.

These aspects use an AI algorithm that taps into the platform's catalogue data via deep convolutional neural networks and is also trained using a Bi-LTSM model that expands the dataset from Myntra's catalogue, which enables the feature to handle a high volume of requests.

The feature currently covers the fashion and lifestyle segments, with plans in the pipeline to include other categories including beauty and an increased number of styles as well.

Myntra also plans to include elements like 'Your Digital Wardrobe' and 'Save the Look', along with additional customizable user options, which consider factors like trends, age, gender, body type, and personal style, in subsequent phases.

Users can access My Stylist' via a floating action button on Myntra's homepage, with banners and picture-in-picture videos informing them about the same.
